These pictures are published by German magazine Spiegel. They were taken by a French photographer, Philippe Chancel, who made his way into N. Korea by promising to N. Koreans that he will only take the beauty of N. Korea.

He took what N. Koreans regard as beautiful things alright but gave them distinctly negative connotation.

I love that pic of father and son in the flowers,
for some reason I'm reminded of Dorothy in the field of
soporific flowers.

Millions in South Korea are free because 30,000 US troops DIED in 3 years under Democratic President TRUMAN.

3,000 troops have died in Iraq under Bush, in the same length of time, but Bush is portrayed as being reckless with our troops.

What's funnier about the painting is the fact both are about the same height. His father was a bit taller. Kim Jong-Il's sensitivity about his height extends to the propaganda.

I just finished a book called "The Aquariums of PyongYang". What a messed up place. The cult worship is designed to keep you out of the labor camps but people actually believe some of this crap. The only skeptical people are in the camps.
NK is really funny. North Koreans don't believe sex outside marriage exists. Dating is even frowned upon. They have annual "criticism" sessions where you criticize yourself and others and then people criticize you. It reminded me of "sexual harassment" training years ago.
BTW North Korea has a thriving black market.

We can't really comprehend the meaning of the picture. It shows the children drinking milk. Milk is a rarity in NK.

The difference of course is that South Koreans are culturally capable of living in a free democratic society. Muslims are not. The Bush administration is apparently still incapable of understanding this basic fundamental fact.

Thank you, Professor monday, for enlightening us in the boonies and hollows.

Professor, there seems oddly to be, say, the examples of Turkey, Lebanon, - and even the Muslim communities in our very state of Michigan (and indeed the Muslims throughout our nation who not only practice democracy but are model citizens and leaders.)

You might want to further broaden our vision by kindly elucidating the subtitles of nondemocratic tendencies in the totalitarian - and certainly non-Muslim - populations of Stalin's Soviet Union and Hitler's Third Reich.

Professor, there is an innate yearning for freedom. And it cost about 600,000 lives in World War II to achieve it.

You see, a lot of us are determined that this never again occur - and that enabling people to be free is the easiest and quickest and least-costly way to this end.

"Professor, there seems oddly to be, say, the examples of Turkey, Lebanon, - and even the Muslim communities in our very state of Michigan "

Islamic parties were prohibited in the few Muslim democracies that exist. Still that was not enough to keep a radical Islamic party from taking power in Turkey recently. Besides not allowing our troops to land in Turkey, they have passed sharia laws which in time will make democracy impossible. For instance adultery is now illegal in Turkey. Husbands can have their wives thrown in prison by simply accusing them of adultery.

If you think the Muslim communities in Michigan will continue to practice democracy once they out number non Muslims, you are mistaken.

"Thank you, Professor monday, for enlightening us in the boonies and hollows."

Your sarcasm makes you appear foolish indeed. Intelligent people can see for themselves what is obvious. They don't need to be told that Islamic culture is incompatible with freedom, human rights, and democracy. Indeed the Koran forbids those practices.

What is surprising is that there are still naive people like you who believe the politically correct propaganda that all cultures are equal, and therefore, Muslims must yearn for the same freedoms and human rights as Americans.

It isn't true. Tribal societies are organized quite differently than civilized societies. They are based on cult of personality where there is one chief and everyone else follows orders. That is why Saddam could maintain order, while our attempts to maintain order and set up democracy have failed. Muslims need to understand, by sheer brute force, exactly who is in charge.

Our willingness to give them freedom is seen as weakness. Power is the only thing they respect.

I once thought only socialists and bleeding heart liberals believed in the multiculturalist nonsensical propaganda, but I can see I was wrong. Multicultural propaganda has infected the Republican party to such a degree, it can hardly be differentiated from the Democrats anymore, at least in that respect.

What is so frightening is to see the complete saturation of state worship that's occured in North Korea. It is hard to see them functioning on their own for even the simple act of going to the bathroom without consulting Dear Leader first. Chilling.

Sounds more like "Festivus" from Seinfeld. "Festivus, for the rest of us!"

"We begin with the airing of grievances..."

If you don't get enough protein in your diet during childhood, you grow up effectively, mentally retarded, with IQ's in the mid double digits. It cannot be reversed by a good diet later on. The years of starvation endured by the North Korean people may have made them a race of morons. It would explain the lack of skepticism among the average people.

Of course those genetically inclined towards rebellion would have been killed off years ago also. Amazing that this atrocity is still being committed, with the help of aid organizations and major powers, in the 21st century. It's as if we had learned nothing during the last 100 years.
