I bet her Catholic parents are just as horrified about their daughters choices.

Nicole Kidman was Catholic too. Sad.

Poor Kate. Poor Katies parents. They must be dying a thousand deaths.

I heard this morning that no license was obtained for a legal marriage. They may be not legally married.

Well, it would be a blessing if they weren't legally married! She could just take baby Suri and go home to her parents when the going gets rough.

yep. Man if she were my daughter I guess I would be there but I would be dying inside. I think Katie may not be very smart.

" A comb and brush and a bowl full of mush"

And a huge team of Scientologist lawyers whispering, "if you say anything at all against our beliefs, we will sue you until the end of time."

I think Katie is just very YOUNG and impressionable?..And rumor had it her parents hate Tom Kat..

Oprah was DISSED from the wedding..and said she'd still send them a gift. Now, that's dumb..

The thing that is weird, is Scientology, in religious-denominatational traditional Europe is VERY frowned upon. A very different place than our multi-religous society.

In Germany it is not seen as a real religion but rather a illegitimate business... I doubt Cruise would even be welcome for a Scientology wedding in Germany.

Scientology weddings are not legal unions in the country they chose (Italy?) so they still have to do a civil union.

Which doesn't have to involve a ceremony, and doesn't have to be done in Italy. They can get the license and get some Justice of the Peace to administer the vows in private anywhere.

I don't blame Euros for declining scientologists the status of religion - the US govt made a mistake in assigning them tax free status.

Just because pulp science-fiction writer L Ron Hubbard said he was the guru doesn't make it so.

Any group that says they are possesed by the spirits of ancient aliens should be monitored not rewarded.

Now if only they would do the same to the Muslims...probably - the most notorious cult ever.

I know how to ward off Scientologists. Have a Republican disposition.

When I was in college, my girl friend and I were approached by Scientologists. We didn't know at the time because it was mostly unknown then.

We were having a snack in an almost empty dinner, which had all tables. We were sitting across from each other. This clean cut, good looking, young college students looking, couple came in and decided to ignore all the empty tables and sit at ours.

They had books with them. They placed the books between them and us on the table. The top book, a very large one which had the title "Scientology" was placed so that title faced us.

They struck up a conversation. My girl friend who was a friendly extravert responded and then asked if that- Scientology- was a college course? They started into their sales pitch. My friendly girl friend was listening intensely. I was getting pissed at their intrusion.

At one instance they asked us what we "wanted out of life". Being the mercenary capitalist that I am, and wanting them to leave, I replied "money and power". My girl friend shot me a dirty look. The PC response is peace and love and happiness.

My answer resulted in them completely shutting me out of the continuing sales pitch. They continued on my girl friend until I asked them to get lost. And told my girl friend we were leaving. Another dirty look towards me.

Cultists prey on friendly open people. Republicans/Conservatives/Meanies like us are safe.

Maybe it's too bad. They might have made me a movie star.

I think the news just said that Scientology isn't recognised in Italy, so they need to have a civil ceremony for this to be legal. ???

That's very telling. Perhaps he chose Italy on purpose so that it wouldn't be legal -- all show and no real entanglement hassles. I guess it amounts to just another Tom Cruise movie, not real life.

Nothing sad.

Pretty, vain women go for the pretty looking guy. Shallowness begets shallowness.

They deserve their misery.
