Welcome To Hazleton One Mayor's Controversial Plan To Deal With Illegal Immigration
60 Minutes ^ | HAZLETON, Pa., Nov. 19, 2006 | Produced By Janet Klein

Posted on 11/21/2006 10:56:54 AM PST by raybbr

One of the biggest issues facing the new Congress is what to do about immigration policy and what to do about the estimated 10 million illegal immigrants now living in the U.S. Not that long ago it was a problem in a half dozen border states, today it impacts virtually the entire country.

snip

Barletta believes what has been going on in Hazleton, a city of about 30,000 people, is a microcosm of what’s been going on all over the country, that illegal immigrants are overwhelming his city, draining its resources and ruining the quality of life

.... "Well, obviously if the federal government was doing something about it you wouldn't be here today. And I wouldn't be talking about it. I mean, we're over 2,000 miles from the nearest Mexican border. So, if cities like Hazleton, Pennsylvania, that sits on top of a mountain is having an illegal immigration problem, I can only imagine what it's like elsewhere in the United States.”

Snip

"There are some people in town that think that this has much less to do with illegal immigrants than it does with the Hispanic community in general," Kroft tells Barletta.

"Well I disagree with that. I have said over and over again, legal immigrants are welcome in Hazleton. Illegal aliens are not. I'm very clear about that. I've been very supportive of the Hispanic community in the seven years that I've been the mayor here," the mayor says.

"You’ve been called a bigot. You’ve been called a political opportunist," Kroft remarks.

"I’ve been called the grand wizard of the KKK," Barletta replies. "I took an oath of office to protect and defend the people of my community. And they can call me all the names they want. But this is worth fighting for."

60 Minutes did its best to portray the Mayor and his supporters as racists, and to convince us that Hazelton is now headed for an economic disaster as a result of its new "immigrant unfriendly" atmosphere.

I saw it. Barletta stood up to the tripe and basically told them "too bad". It was great.

He was on 60 minutes the other night, and I watched him. This guy rocks! He got sick of waiting for the Bush administration to do anything about the problem, so he's taking care of it himself. He's my hero! ;o)

I'm thinking that the best way to solve the problem of illegal aliens will be one town and/or county at a time doing what this mayor is doing.

Bravo indeed.

My parents lived in Hazleton for a few years, now they are back home in Milton, which is about a half hour southwest of Hazleton. About 18 months ago an illegal from Honduras killed my sister's friend's sister in her own apartment - stabbed her 37 times. He was her neighbor and asked to use her phone. Milton's first murder in decades I believe.

He got sentenced to life - agreed to plead guilty to avoid the death penalty.

It would be nice, but a federal judge stepped in and stopped him from going forward with his plan. It's racist, doncha know? < barf >

Answer me this, please someone:

Do Hispanics think that it's OK for someone to break the law(s) if they are Hispanic? Do they only want the law enforced for non-Hispanics? Do other minorities in the U.S. think this way?

Except for the fact that the MSM love to lie I don't get why they portray border enforcement as something that will alienate the legal Hispanics here.

The most glaring propaganda was at the start when the announcer said there are "10 million illegal aliens" in this country. I emailed and ask them if they were using figures quoted about a decade ago!

Be sure to see this one.

Write to U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and ask him to investigate was Elvira Arellano is still here held up in a sanctuary? We believe ICE/Homeland Security is not doing the job they have been created for. Just like every other dept. in Illinois they need to be investigated.

I mean, we're over 2,000 miles from the nearest Mexican border.

I thought this sounded too high when I heard it the other night. But it's close. According to Mapquest, the driving distance from Hazleton, Pa. to Laredo, Tx. is 1892.5 miles.

The Americans of Mexican descent that I grew up with, that have been here decades, legally, are just Americans, like you and me and think like we do. I just flashed back to a 4th of July a long time ago. Edwardo and I were pretty happy on a case of Dos XX beer, we grabbed our American flags and went to the parade! I digress....

The "legal" Mexicans that are envolved with the amnesty/reconquista garbage are previous amnesty winners (3 million plus their offspring), anchor babies (up to 4 million, they say)or criminal elements with ties to the drug lords, smuggler, non-profits getting fat from everyone's suffering, in other words they are in the "business". ( Who knows how many million of those)Many have a "vested" interest in keeping the flow coming.

Thanks, I've been working on this one. I'm very concerned what kind of precident is and will be set by these maneuvers.

I listed a few of the things Steve Kroft forgot to cover here:

Note that CBS allows comments on some or all of their stories. For instance:

That's true. Amnesty in any form equals perpetuating human smuggling, drug smuggling, child slavery/prostitution and the continuation of corruptive influence on all levels of our government.

Preserving the Euro-Christian foundation of our nation (still at least 65% of the citizenry) is important for the survival of the great experiment - as parts do not work together when they're from different designs and manufacturers. The self-deluded guilt-mongers and the financially insulated are insistent that their alien pseudo-slaves be given a free pass on our social expense dime while they skate away cost free.

Not happening. Dilution of cultures end up in similes of African and Eastern European countries where tribal and religious schisms foment violence and chaos. Multiculturalism and diversity is the sure road to America's ultimate destruction. I pray that the members of this site have countered the teachings of the socialist tools that train their children.

It's unfortunately obvious that some members buy into the one-world plan wholeheartedly (while perpetuating the lie that No Such Plan exists). I maintain that those who do are turning their backs on our principles and can no longer rightfully claim the remaining rights and benefits of abiding citizens. They are traitors and their words define them.
