First Daughter Barbara (Bush) Robbed in Argentina
abc news ^ | 11-21-06 | abc

Posted on 11/21/2006 3:56:24 PM PST by dogbyte12

First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.

It was not the only mishap on the two-week trip to Argentina by Barbara (right) and her twin sister Jenna (left).

A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an "altercation" with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports. The Secret Service said today the incident was an attempted mugging that occurred while the agent was on his own time. The agent is doing fine.

The purse snatching took place on Barbara's first night in town while she was dining in the picturesque San Telmo neighborhood. According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident.

The Secret Service would not comment on the purse snatching, and the First Lady’s office said they would not comment on any personal trip made by the daughters. There have been recent reports, however, that Jenna Bush has been living and working in Panama as an intern for UNICEF.

Some SS guys are likely going to find themselves working in Montana by month end.

We might think about keeping these incompetents around. Slim possibility they could be used after January 2009.

Seriously, do you really think many people are going to read a 15000+ word post?

I read it. It was interesting and now it's gone.

Some people can't sit and read for 15 minutes?

It's just text so the bandwidth is minute compared to this whole thread.

I foresee a Career Change for some SS agents - like tracking down penny counterfeiters in Bismarck, North Dakota.

They do like to have a good time like most young people, and in Argentina they do it until 6 in the morning. It intimidated me. The bars in Oklahoma close at 2 and I'm pretty well done in by then. I don't know how I would make it another 4 hours.
Probably by starting later. I know that in Mexico the "siesta" comes into play and people often work until 8 or 9pm. They may go out at midnight or even 1am and it may be the same in Argentina.

The Bush twins have always come across as normal and indeed I suspect it made a difference in 2004 among younger voters that Kerry's daughters seemed way more haughty and aloof.

Yes she was. I've seen that picture before but thanks for posting it.

Grandmother looked like the great actress Patricia Neal ("Hud" and so many others) to me. I loved "Alma" in Hud.

Patricia Neal was a very fine woman.............. and so is grandmother.

The real crime here is working for UNICEF, an offspring of the UN.

"Apparently, none of the journalists ever went to college.."

You're right. If they did, they didn't socialize.

My two girls are grown, are successful and happy, and outstanding citizens in their community. I have to laugh, though, when I look back, I realize that if they were famous, they would have been in the tabloids quite frequently. They did have fun!

Going to Argentina at the age of 25 deserves being hit with a belt? You want the President to beat his daughters for this? (logical conclusion from your post).

You're losing me here, Bob...............and I'm not stupid.
