First Daughter Barbara (Bush) Robbed in Argentina
abc news ^ | 11-21-06 | abc

Posted on 11/21/2006 3:56:24 PM PST by dogbyte12

First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.

It was not the only mishap on the two-week trip to Argentina by Barbara (right) and her twin sister Jenna (left).

A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an "altercation" with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports. The Secret Service said today the incident was an attempted mugging that occurred while the agent was on his own time. The agent is doing fine.

The purse snatching took place on Barbara's first night in town while she was dining in the picturesque San Telmo neighborhood. According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident.

The Secret Service would not comment on the purse snatching, and the First Lady’s office said they would not comment on any personal trip made by the daughters. There have been recent reports, however, that Jenna Bush has been living and working in Panama as an intern for UNICEF.

2. Secret Service agent gets beaten up
3. Three Secret Service motorcycles crash
4. White House staffer beaten and robbed in Wikiki

What in the heck is going on?!?!?

Frankly, I'm surprised the girls are allowed to leave the country. They have to be the most coveted targets in the world. It is scary to think someone was able to get that close.

So people can't go anywhere you don't want to pay for protection? I think the point is that folks with SS protection live as normal a life as possible and the SS goes along.

"Where did they get these wimps?"

Our top SS are STILL guarding Hitlery's SPAWN FROM HELL! So pity the Bush gals....they ended up with the leftovers!

My complaint mainly referred to the amount of space your post took up on the page, but you should know that FReepers expect to have facts backed up with a link.
That's how we are able to acknowledge fact from fiction.

Thanks.

Soccermom, you are exactly right. If the girls would just spend more time with mom and dad they would see a lot more of the world than they are seeing now.
They are prime targets for all the crazies out there and I'm surprised they are allowed to travel like they do.
If one of them got snatched, it would be WWIII.

Jenna's apparently working for UNICEF; she's the one with the education background and speaks fluent Spanish. I'm not sure what Barbara does; she was just in Argentina for a vacation.

Ah.. well.. many 25 year old girls don't want to spend all their time with Mom and Dad.

"If one of them got snatched, it would be WWIII." No doubt. It sends chills down my spine to think of what would happen. I don't know about them spending time with Mom and Dad in travels though, either. That would be like a constant trumpet as to where they are. I had gotten the impression that, post 9/11, coverage of the twins was off limits.

They're dad leaves the country all the time. It would be impossible to treat two twenty-somethings the same way that you would treat thirteen-year-olds. I'm sure that both have their own careers and lives.

Sounds like they need to get James West and Artemus Gordon back on the job.

I'm thinking Jack Bauer ...
