LOS ANGELES - A high school is apologizing after an anonymous article was published in the school paper comparing rowdy black students at a fast food restaurant to "a pack of monkeys."

Carson High School officials withdrew copies of this month's newspaper, letters of apology were sent home to parents, and principal Kenneth Keener apologized over the public address system.
The article, which was titled "Looks like the circus is in town," appeared on the editorial page of the issue distributed Tuesday. It appeared under the column title "Rambling Rogue," which is written anonymously each month by one of the paper's top editors.
The piece described raucous and impolite behavior at a nearby Taco Bell: "When I go to Taco Bell, I want to go to a restaurant, NOT A ZOO! Stop acting like animals... behave and clean up after yourself." The writer said most of the crowd was black and described the students as stupid, rude, immature and insensitive.
The newspaper's student editor, Alex De Vera, and faculty adviser Gregory Vieira agreed to pull the papers. They said the article escaped their normal vetting because the page was late and only two people saw the piece in advance — its writer and the page editor.
The school is not releasing the name of the author, and Vieira refused to discuss any possible disciplinary actions.

Are they honestly gunning for this guy; do they really want him to lose his job over something as INCONSEQUENTIAL, MEANINGLESS, and most likely ACCURATE as this???

If I were compared to a monkey I wouldn't be offended as I AM NOT LIKE ONE!!! I also wouldn't be offended if I was compared to a river, a constellation, Michael Moore or a box of Cracker Jacks. Why some people are so easily offended escapes me, but I am cowardly enough not to compare muslims to terrorists.
Some friends and I were returning from Florida a few years ago , We stopped in North Carolina at a buffet to eat.
Once we entered we fond mostly blacks there. No big deal. We started eating and soon one of the girls in the back came out with a full tray of fried chicken. While we were eating we noticed this black woman go up to the buffet counter with her handbag, She dumped the whole tray of fried chicken into her handbag. One of my friends went to one of the workers there and told her what had happened, she said that wasnt unusual. Just the cost of doing business in that neighborhood. I was glad the car was still there when we went out ,and drove on back up 95.
What job is that? This is a high school club, supposedly training students to write for the public. Clearly this editor was not ready for prime time, since anyone in an integrated school knows this kind of stuff isn't acceptable!

Why is this racist? If people act like animals why can not they be called the animals they act like.

Just another example of good old American, "Tell them what they want to hear." Never tell the truth. You'll find your @$$ in trouble faster than you can whistle Dixie. Most of these places where kids hang out ARE ZOOS as well as pig pens!

Remind me why I would want to go to an integrated school? Are you assuming this school is mostly white, latino, asian, black? Integrated should not mean courtesy, manners, common sense are left at the door. Using a student newspaper to point out the lack thereof isn't the problem, it is what the behavior was compared to that is the problem. Lack of tact is missing to get across the point that disrespectful, rude, childish, illmannered behaviour does not belong in a restaurant, or any place for that matter.
I was at IHOP today and saw something on the menu called "Machaca." I think IHOP needs to apologize to Jim Webb's assistant.

Better yet, where are the advocates for Monkey Dignity?
Pointing out the obnoxious behavior and calling the offenders monkeys was NOT in itself racist.
The problem lies in identifying the students race and using the monkey description which has historically been used as a caricature on blacks"sub-human"status in the eyes of white supremicists.
Are there SOME black kids who act like jackasses?Sure,we all have seen it.But I've seen plenty of white and Mexican kids acting crazy and I don't see their behavior being compared to monkeys.

More code words-Willie,Rufus,Jerome.The whole point of these so called"tests"is to demonize black kids and not have to face the reality that lots of scandalous stuff is going out in the suburbs as well.
If you want to got to a restaurant, go to a restaurant, not a Taco Bell.
1) A multitude and variety of foul language.
2) Indiscriminate line-breaking.
3) Unusually loud laughter that gave the appearance that person doing the laughing hadn't a clue as to the effect this loud laughter would have on his or her fellow diners.
4) Yelling across the restaurant with no regard to your proximity to another person's ear.
5) Conversations about private matters screamed for all to hear.
Take it for what it's worth. The behavior occurs.
