The President and the first lady are spending Thanksgiving at Camp with a small gathering of family and friends.

Included on the guest list are the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former personal assistant Blake Gottesman and his parents.

Their menu is free-range roasted turkey, cornbread dressing, zucchini gratin, whipped maple sweet potatoes, basil chive red potato mash and pumpkin pie.

In the morning the President made telephone calls to members of the Armed Forces who are stationed at remote overseas locations, or who have recently returned from overseas, to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving and thank them for their service to the American Nation.

There was a rumour that the Vice President was or was going to Iraq to wish the troops a Happy Thanksgiving his office denied these reports that he was in Iraq on an unannounced visit to mark the US Thanksgiving holiday with US troops. The White House however did confirm yesterday that he will depart on Friday for a Saturday meeting with King Abdallah bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud in Saudi Arabia to discuss issues of mutual interest related to developments in the Middle East region. They confirmed that no additional stops are planned maybe this is where the rumour came from as they emphasised no additonal stops were planned.

Outgoing Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld thanked the troops for their service and sacrifice in a videotaped Thanksgiving Day message. He said Americans are praying for them and offering heartfelt thanks and that the US is fortunate to have "men and women willing to step forward to defend freedom."

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

That was the first attempt where I made 2 and froze the small one. I defrosted it today and it was fine the custard had not separated or anything - I think it helped that I put a sheet of baking parchment on top before I put a plastic bag round it.
