If Fighting Sioux are bad then Cowardly Sioux are good?
Dartmouth's athletic director is a womyn? Which locker room does she spend more time in? Feh.
FMCDH(BITS)
Dartmouth's founders had a very different attitude about Indians as did the terrified townspeople. The arrival of the "fighting Sioux" would be met with militia.
Excuse me, but what kind of wussy school has a woman AD?
How does the lady stand to watch hockey, anyway? It's all so....violent!
P.S. I wonder if she calls the penalty box a "time-out"...
I wonder who finds the Idaho Vandals offensive...
Her ignorance of history is as appalling as her political correctness.
Didn't I read somewhere a while ago the UND mascot is used with the support of the Sioux?
Six sick Siouxs suing six sows sewing in the sewer.....
Gee, I hope Notre Dame's not playing.
I find Dartmouth's mascot "Big Green" extremely insensitive to my people the Irish.
As a Mick "Big Green insinuates that I am well endowed and puts a lot of pressure on me.
Funny, they don't look Sioux-ish to me.
Apologising when no apology is needed.
Nobody asked for an apology, its seems the only ones offended are the NCAA and I dont believe they are led by the Sioux.
Just looking for trouble where there is none.
That's just not good enough. He needs to pay them a lot of money as well and that will make it all better, whatever it was.
Sarcasm Alert!
Hers is the voice of tyranny and oppression. Today, she and the other authorities of Darmouth find the nickname Fighting Sioux offensive. What will they find offensive tomorrow? There is no telling. These people will impose their standards, values, and ideas on all those who disagree with them. The marketplace of ideas has been shut down in academia, and especially in the Ivy League. Before long, they will be dragging those who hold different views into the streets and tossing them in reeducation camps. The only things missing will be the brown shirts and jackboots.
North Dakota's "Fighting Sioux" nickname is offensive?
Wait a dang minute - the Democrats are always "fighting" for the underdogs, the underprivileged, the underrepresented, the underwear.
Better check with North Dakota's Senators Byran Dorgan and Gaylord "Kent" Conrad and Representative Earl Pomeroy, for their "feelings" on this matter....before y'all go off fully cocked. (Sorry S.C. Gamecocks)
"There are also many people on this campus who are simply ignorant to the fact that chanting "wah-hoo-wah" or dressing up in mock ceremonial outfits is offensive to others. To these people, I would say stop and consider what you are doing. By dressing in an "Indian costume," for example, you are not merely having some innocent fun, but rather are using symbols that are sacred to Native peoples in a way that is completely sacrilegious and racist.
As a Native American student at Dartmouth, I have felt extremely unwelcome by people who support the Indian mascot. I, along with most other Native students, feel that the mascot is a sick joke made at our expense. It is bad enough that in the first 200 years that this institution existed, it averaged less than one Native student per year, despite the fact that one of the main tenets of its founding was to educate Native students. Now that we have an established Native American program at Dartmouth, those who support the mascot seek to use it to perpetuate their own feelings of racial superiority."- columnist Shaun Stewart
Until the 1970's they were the Dartmouth Indians, replaced with The Big Green.
At a recent Homecoming, a student sold t-shirts with a picture of the Holy Cross mascot "performing a sex act on the Dartmouth Indian".
Dartmouth AD: Drink AD. Boot AD.
...Oh, they meant the athletic director, not Alpha Delta Phi.
In the spirit of the University System, we should rename the mascot the Palestinian "Freedom Fighters". Fans can carry fake bombs into games to show their support. :)
