Come off it. We let the Democrats get their way when they were in the minority and we were in the majority. Does Morris really think the GOP suddenly grew a spine?

This is Dick Morris in mid-air, about to complete the shark-jumping process.

The democrat who is usually right is Pat Cadell. He picked the last 3 election cycles dead on. This time he said the democrats would take the house and senate in a lot of close races but lose both in two years because the democrats are scary.

Yes, the president has a veto

Really? I see no evidence of said veto power.

The majority leader phones the minority leader and asks if a filibuster is in effect

Unbelievable. Now they can phone in their opposition, god forbid they actually get on the floor and do something.

They're all so damn busy collecting cash they can't even have a good old fashioned fillabuster.

All of those judges were held up by phone calls not real action, way to go repubs.....squandered opportunities..

I am not buying it, liberals crave power like a vampire craves necks to bite, there is no way they will let themselves by in even nominal power without doing something liberal.

Normally I like dick "The Toes" Morris's insights, in this case however, he is dead wrong.

He may be singing us a lullaby, trying to coo all of us into sleep.

Oh God, if Morris says it'll be fine, we are so screwed. When, I aks you, have the Republicans ever responded in kind to the Democrats obstructionist techniques? What are the Vegas odds that the Rinos in the Senate will block anything?

Taxes will rise when the the last taxcuts expire with or without a vote.

Will Bush be strong enough to veto a budget he doesn't like? Billy Clinton did.

The Republicans won't have any more of a backbone now that they are the minority than they had when they were the majority.

No, Dick Morris is right about this one.

The Senate won't pass anything that the GOP doesn't like. Like in previous sessions, a 1-vote majority is not a majority at all, and it will take at least 60 votes to bring anything to the floor for a vote.

The House will be a free-for-all. The Dems will want to be themselves, and the GOP (having hopefully learned from the Dems in the past few years) will make sure that nothing gets through cleanly.

Bush won't get anything he wants either. Welcome to gridlock for the next 2 years.

I think Morris is right on this one- the dems will be too tied up in exacting revenge on and purging themselves of their hatred for the administration to do any serious legislating. That, more than anything else, is their motivation and inspiration- certainly not the desire to bring any new ideas to the floor.

He is probably right.
The Dem's are the biggest phonies I sometimes don't think that they bleieve in half the things they say they do. For instance socialized medicine. People vote for the Dem's becuase they think they would do something about medical insurance. that is why they will not do anything.they would not want to lose the votes. They also never do anything about "taxing the rich". Trust fund liberals don't like to pay tax anymore than anyone else.

That's true, Dick, but what I'm worried about is not the skill of the Democrats but the ineptitude of the Republicans--and specifically the 2008 election.

Considering the Republican idiocy that handed the Democrats--of all people--the 2006 election on a silver platter (by ignoring the Republican base, ignoring the demands for a halt to illegal immigration and runaway government spending, foolishly failing to nullify the Eminent Domain decision, expanding entitlement programs with prescription drug benefits, etc., et al.!), the foolishness of the Republicans in Congress and the Bush Administration can hardly be exaggerated.

If it were not for the foolishness of the Republicans, the Democrats wouldn't stand a chance--but that's a big If.

If it were not for Republican foolishness, the GOP would have increased its majority in Congress in the 2006 election and assured the election of a Republican Congress and Presidency in 2008.

OK, I'm taking bets as to how long it will be before the dems exercise the Nuclear Option.

The Democrats will teach us a lesson about the "Gentlemens Fillabuster" and we'll be reading out of the phone book if we have the nerve to press the issue, but I think that is good because maybe the Republicans will finally learn that no matter how they try, they will never get the Rats to love them.
