[Hunter's] viable if we get off our butts and make him viable...

Okay. Maybe one of the Hunter backers would get off their butts and explain which law school he graduated from. Hunter's web site and the CA bar have two different stories.

If Hunter is to be viable his resume will need to stand up to scrutiny.

Don't be silly, my mother taught me to read from "The National Review" and "Human Events" forty years ago. Romney was number 8 on their top ten RINO list, btw.

He's a fake and the serious conservative base knows it. If the Boston Globe wants to slam him, I don't care. It's what he get for trying to play both ends.

I've been a conservative activist in the R party since my parents were Reagan delegates to the '76 national convention. I wore a Write in Reagan t-shirt for 4 years of high school.

Early attempt by the NYT owned Globe to deep six Romney's attempt to win the nomination, IMO.

Well it won't work. Romeny is determined to run and this is such a dumb issue - they are going to have to find something more credible than that if they want to derail him. I don't think they will.

Agree. But those meatheads at the NYT/Boston Globe are bound to run more "hard news" stories about Mitt. Maybe an expose about the (now illegal) practice of polygamy while discussing Romney's religion...

I expect more trash talk from the Globe.

Cute, but it doesn't change the fact that Romney is a RINO. He's all slick packaging and no meat.

We have 12-16 months to get serious about the nomination. For me that means not giving Romney, McCain and other media moderates a leg up. I'm not going to defend him to the media or anyone else.

I've got no use for him and I don't need a blow dried candidate with neuticals instead of cajones.

I hired a landscaper once to do our yard. The foreman we dealt with was blond and blue eyed.

Two weeks later, a truckload of Mexicans pulled up in my yard. I could hardly march out there and ask to see their green cards, could I?

Of course not. The media is acting desperate right now and it shows.

Yep. If Romney was a democrat, this would be a non-issue.

"Well it won't work. Romeny is determined to run and this is such a dumb issue - they are going to have to find something more credible than that if they want to derail him. I don't think they will."

Consider him 'derailed'. Just another OBLer playing the game of 'amnesty is not a 'path towards citizenship' and deportation exaggerating. Though the whole 'guns to their heads' thing is a first for me, we're not buying.

The Lowell Sun

WASHINGTON -- Gov. Mitt Romney expressed support yesterday for an immigration program that places large numbers of illegal residents on the path toward citizenship, but criticized any form of "amnesty."

Speaking to reporters after a speech on education reform, Romney also invited outgoing White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, a Holbrook native, to challenge Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., in midterm elections this fall.

Romney's comments came as the Senate began heated debate on immigration reform. On Monday, the Judiciary Committee approved a controversial bill sponsored by Kennedy and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that would make 11 million illegal immigrants eligible for citizenship.

"I don't believe in amnesty," Romney said, using a word voiced by Republicans to describe widespread forgiveness of illegal residency in the United States.

But at the same time, Romney said illegal immigrants should have a chance to obtain citizenship.

"I don't believe in rounding up 11 million people and forcing them at gunpoint from our country," Romney said. "With these 11 million people, let's have them registered, know who they are. Those who've been arrested or convicted of crimes shouldn't be here; those that are here paying taxes and not taking government benefits should begin a process towards application for citizenship, as they would from their home country."

The McCain-Kennedy bill would legalize the 11 million immigrants if they demonstrate they've paid taxes, can speak English, pass a civics test, pay $2,000 in fees and aren't criminals.

Massachusetts saw its illegal immigrant population increase from an estimated 55,000 people in 1990 to 200,000 people in 2004, according to a recent report by the Pew Hispanic Center

"This is nothing but a hit job by liberal media hacks and Freepers like yourself that charachterize this as a do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do scenario. It isn't."

Oh, but it is....Romney is pulling the same old 'I'm against amnesty, but give it to them anyway', just like GWB.

Clearly more evidence that Romney is the Stealth RINO.

We all know how Rudy and McCain feel about amnesty. Romney is the one who is trying to fool us. And so far he is doing a pretty good job of it.

Conservative? I beg to differ.

My neighbor needed a new roof. She told me, before they arrived, that she insisted that no illegals be used. When the workers showed up, the only one who spoke English was the boss.

So, I guess she could have fired them and found another contractor. But does anyone have a whole crew that is legal? A gaggle of illegals was busted just yesterday in the parking lot of the local Home Depot.

I have not been following the Romney stories, but is the GOP considering him as a front runner?

He sounds like a great candidate.
