SIERRA VISTA, Ariz — A 61-year-old woman found with a trunkful of marijuana was convicted of drug running in what prosecutors said was an attempt to earn cash for a bingo habit. State troopers found 10 bundles of pot totaling 214 pounds hidden in Leticia Villareal Garcia's car trunk last year when they stopped her outside Bisbee, in far southeastern Arizona.

Villareal told jurors before they convicted her Thursday that her only regular income was a $275 monthly welfare check, but she frequently played bingo and occasionally won thousands of dollars.

Prosecutor Doyle Johnstun said the game was Villareal's undoing.

A bingo problem, that's original.

"Hidden in the trunk."

Isn't that pretty much the case for anything in the trunk?

I guess, must be the old 'Jedi Mind Trick' plan. Didn't seem to work in this case.

Okay, how long before they declare
Bingon a "gateway game"?

In court she reverted to the 'chewbacca defense' apparently. /s

It did read like the prosecutor was her defense lawyer though didn't it?

"10 bundles of pot totaling 214 pounds"

Bingo, huh? I'm guessing that much in bulk is worth over 100K.

Street value in ounces at $100 an ounce (cheap) is over $342,000.

As I have stated before, when I turn 65, I'm going on a rampage. I'm gonna jacked up as a lab rat then mow down a bunch of people at a market.

This guy had a very attractive wife, who was always wanting clothes, jewelry, etc., but he was not too well off. One day his wife came home with a diamond neckless. The guy asked, "Where did you get that?"

His wife replied, "I won it at bingo."

The next night she came home with a mink coat. The guy asked, "Where did you get that?"

His wife replied, "I won it at bingo."

The next night she came home with a Mercedes Benz. The guy asked, "Where did you get that?"

His wife replied, "Look!! Don't keep asking where I get my things!! Go upstairs and run my bath for me!!"

The wife came upstairs to find a small amount of water in the tub. The wife asked, "How come you put so little water in the tub?"

He replied, "I didn't want to wet your bingo card!"

Blame it on big bad bingo. They could also have said that she was earning cash to eat just as well as earning cash to play bingo.

When bingo is banned, only drug dealers will have bingo....Naw, that sounds too stupid, even for me. : )

I'm not sure I understand your question.

My point is, in a few recent cases, the "elderly" have been treated with kid gloves and not given sentences that even come close to their crimes.

An old guy recently ran over and killed 10 people. We found out he will not serve a day in jail. Now, we have the prosecutor, of all people, basically BSing about bingo to get this lady a light sentence. I can pretty much guarantee you that if I got caught with 200 pounds of pot, the prosecutor wouldn't be making excuses for me.

Man, when I get old....watch out!! (It's a joke, BTW. I'm not really going on a rampage. Obviously I needed to state that.)

"The 3 to 12 years she faces at sentencing goes far beyond what her "crime" merits."

Well, that's a topic for another thread, which I would likely agree with you on but not my point.

No, you're quite right - a Bingon is the fundamental particle of a bingo game. Just don't ask me what the antiparticle is.
