The founder of a prominent Trenton lobbying firm with deep roots in Republican politics pled guilty yesterday to using "inflated and fraudulent" invoices to collect more than $2.5 million in fees from the Burlington County Bridge Commission over seven years. Robert Stears, a founder of The Strategy Group in Trenton, said he routinely submitted invoices to the commission for lobbying and other work that was never done. Stears, 51, of Lawrence, also admitted he failed to file federal income tax returns from 1999 to 2004, avoiding hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax payments. Stears pled guilty to mail fraud and tax evasion in U.S. District Court in Camden in connection with the fraudulent invoices. He faces up to 25 years in prison at sentencing, set for March 30.
A former board president of the National Log Cabin Republicans, Stears has close ties to local, state and national Republican politics. During the years Stears said he collected more than $2.5 million in payments from the Republican-controlled bridge commission, the Strategy Group was a generous supporter of the Burlington County Republican party. Disclosure forms filed with the state Election Law Enforcement Commission show the firm gave more than $110,000 to the Burlington County Republican Committee between 1998 and 2002. Court documents indicate the campaign contributions were an element in the federal case against Stears.

no picture of Robert Stears, a founder of The Strategy Group in Trenton?
Ya think they could have used the word "Republican" any more often?
Someone's gotta say it...
Ain't nuthin' come from the Strategy Group in Trenton 'cept Stears and Queers.
"Ain't nuthin' come from the Strategy Group in Trenton 'cept Stears and Queers."
THANKS, I have been racking my mind trying to remember that line
There is a pic---cannot be posted under FR rules.
Heh---if it was a Dumbocrat, wouldn't be mentioned, not even once.
I can't understand why there are queers in the Republican party.
It's called "the planting a foot in both camps strategy"----so whichever side wins, they have allies to promote their agenda.
It took just 13 words for this piece to use the word Republican, but we're not smart enough to notice.
Reporting on corrupt officals is so tediously boring.
Mainly because every last one is corrupt, the name of the
game is really how long before they make an enemy who can safely expose them.
Feeding the offenders slowly into a woodchipper on the
six o'clock evening news would deter these snakes.
It's highlighted-----the first word in the headline.
Hey, they let everyone know they had a challenged set of morals going into the arrangement.
You remember the story about the Trojan (no pun intended) Horse? Same idea, get the enemy inside our walls.
In anything they get into these mentally ill, undisciplined, narcissists screw up an organization....
anybody with gender identification issues placed in an area of trusts is bound to get "screwed"..literally and figuratively.
I keep forgetting.......gotta write that down. LOL
Marcus Tullius Cicero Roman Statesman
Speech in the Roman Senate - 42 BC
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.
Did I miss something? The article told me this guy was a evil Republican. It said so time and again. Yet I don't recall it mentioning what "Log Cabin Republican" represents.
At least he should enjoy prison.
