BURBANK, Calif. - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger first announced his candidacy on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." Might Barack Obama, who is considering a run for president, do the same?
"This is a great place. Everybody who has announced here has been successful," Leno hinted to Obama, who appeared on Friday's show.
"This is true, but I have to say that I've already committed to the Food Network to announce," Obama quipped before offering his standard answer to a question that follows him everywhere he goes.
"I think that if I'm going to run, then I've got to dive in early next year, and I've got a little bit of time," Obama said.
When Leno asked whether he would consider running for vice president, Obama said: "You don't run for vice president. So I don't think about it as much."
Earlier Friday, Obama gave a speech about fighting AIDS at the Saddleback Church in Orange County. His visit was a source of dispute among evangelical leaders, with some of the most conservative saying that a politician who supports abortion rights should not have been allowed to speak at such a prominent church.
"Everybody was reporting on me going to this church," Obama told Leno. "It was like, a Democrat in church!"
It just seemed like the conservative thing to do. ;-)
I don't see why a sense of humor should disqualify him.
It appears that Keyes never had a chance against the plans the dems/media had for Osama Obama.
"the reality of AIDS is affecting flesh-and-blood men and women who need help."
Equally true for malaria, tuberculosis, cancer and Alzheimer's disease. So what's so unique and different about AIDS? Hmmmm........
In and of itself, it's not a biggy or prerequisite, besides humor is a relative thing anyway, imo.
So far, his delivery and timing do not impress me, nor do I suspect , would or could influence world leaders at a time when we teeter on the edge of conflagrations around the globe.
Having a novice with his hands on the helm does not seem like a good move, all kidding aside.
We've already had at least two, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton - although the description "deadly national peril" comes closer to an accurate description. The "joke" was on us!
Believe me when I say that my reply to you is in no way an endorsement or statement of support for Obama...
But I think that the "professional" politicians now taking up space in DC - from both sides - are the biggest part of the problem with American politics today, and thusly the country.
Good point, we can always strive to do better.
Career politicians are much more susceptible to losing vision of who and why they are elected to office.
There are probably exceptions but they are few and far between.
Novice? Listen to his empty rhetoric. His AIDS address
is just a blathering of old platitudes. Never addressed the real cause of AIDS. He'a like Clinton
a triangulator, above the fray.
He's just another empty suit given closely scripted
lines.
More political milage per gallon.
Thanks!
Until term limits are instituted, the nonsense will continue.
>>>Do we really want a 'Joker' in the WH?
We had Clinton for 8 years...
A better question might be do we want somebody in the White House who's only qualification for the job is that he beat Alan Keyes?
I saw that jackass last night on Leno. Taylor Hicks was on after him. Much more entertaining. And I would vote for him before Obama too.
The size of the injection site?
