Terri's Story
Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation ^ | December 3,2006 | Schindler Foundation

Theresa Marie Schindler was born to Robert and Mary Schindler on December 3, 1963. She was the first of three children the Schindlers would have.

Terri was a shy, but comical, child who had an affinity for music, animals and the arts. She kept a small circle of friends and was dear to schoolmates, neighboring families and her own extended family.

Following high school, Terri came into her own. She developed a knack for sketching and doodling. She enjoyed outings with her friends. She was an adoptive mother to the family’s dog, Bucky.

Terri attended Catholic School while growing up and remained close to her faith throughout her life.

In 1983, Terri met Michael Schiavo at Bucks County Community College and the two began dating. He was the first romantic interest Terri had.

The couple was engaged within a few months and married a year later at Terri’s church in Southampton, Pa. She was 21.

In 1986, Terri and Michael relocated to Pinellas County, Florida and her parents followed three months later.

In 1990, at the age of 26, Terri suffered a mysterious cardio-respiratory arrest for which no cause has ever been determined. She was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy – neurological injury caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. Terri was placed on a ventilator, but was soon able to breathe on her own and maintain vital function. She remained in a severely compromised neurological state and was provided a PEG tube to ensure the safe delivery of nourishment and hydration.

On March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of marked dehydration following more than 13 days without nutrition or hydration under the order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of the Pinellas-Pasco’s Sixth Judicial Court. Terri was 41.

Follow on to Haleigh Poutre update of yesterday...

The 2006 House report included a series of recommendations for the department, such as establishing a better way to identify children who need extra monitoring or attention and improving training for those required to report suspected child abuse.

The new committee’s chairman, Rep. John Rogers, D-Norwood, said lawmakers will hold hearings at the end of the month and after that decide whether new laws are needed to turn the report’s recommendations into reality. "I think there are always to improve our system," Rogers said. "We’ll be listening to everyone from DSS officials to child advocates to district attorneys to judges."

Where is the euphoria, Mr. Felos?

Ping to wagglebee thread on painful euthanasia...

Zurich, Switzerland (LifeNews.com) -- A Swiss euthanasia group that says it has coordinated the deaths of more than 600 people at its clinics there is coming under fire after a German woman apparently suffered tremendous pain when she died at one of its facilities.

The SonntagsZeitung newspaper in Zurich reported Sunday that a 43 year-old German woman with the initial A.H. screamed in pain for over four minutes before her death.

The Dignitas group gave her a lethal cocktail last November that eventually took her life.

St. Pete Times published a letter to the editor from someone who sees media coverage of Terri a little diffently.

Sure, he got involved with trying to keep Terri Schiavo from being starved to death, but that was not in the best interest of a news-hungry media and it was allowed to proceed somehow, with the blessing of the Times.

The state of Florida is a better place now than when Bush got here, and these are trying times. Gov. Charlie Crist has some big shoes to fill.

In praise of Jeb Bush

I don't even want to look at this one. Sheesh. Did God command, "Thou shalt not kill, or, Thou shalt kill -- debate the issue"?

Not quite sure I follow this fellow. Is he saying Jeb was a pretty good guy even if he did save Terri's life? I dunno. Jeb should get some credit for leading the cavalry in 2003, but then, he (and George) get some major blame for going wussy-pussy in 2005. And btw, why is it that the government cannot act with foresight? In 2003, Terri starved for six days before help came. In 2005, Terri starved for about the same six days before help came -- and then the help wasn't help! What a bunch of gutless wonders.

Did you like my fix? (#40) Number 4 shot about right? It occurred to me later that my proposed facility could be used for Rent-a-Snuff, for customers like Michael Schiavo who fake somebody else's suicide wish. He could have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees, and -- not that such a humane thought would ever cross his mind -- he could have spared his ex thirteen days of agonizing pain.

Maybe the Swiss will heed and have a facility ready by the time he gets tired of his current squeeze.

>> The Department of Social Services had been involved with her family before she was hospitalized because Haleigh had a history of injuries, but social workers were convinced at the time that she was hurting herself.

Bureaucrats are retarded, but this takes stupidity to a new low. These people have the job of protecting children from abuse, yet did not suspect abuse when they saw Haleigh being injured repeatedly. Did they really think she was beating herself up? Burning herself with cigarettes? Then, a last abusing and it was too late. Haleigh was pushed down the stairs, starved, burned with cigarettes and beaten with a baseball bat. Thank you, Massachusetts DSS morons.

No wonder they tried to kill the child themselves. She is a testament to their monumental incompetence.

No. Straight from Latin, uxor = wife. "Et ux." is a lawyer's abbreviation for "and wife." Uxorial = wifely. Uxorious = excessively or "submissively" fond of the little lady, like, y'know, all smoochy-woochy-woo wid widdle snoogums. Which reminds me of Woody Allen's observation that males have a limited supply of blood -- enough to run the brain or their sex organ, but not both at the same time :-)

Uxorcide implies snuffing one's own wife so you know "whodunnit" -- Michael :-)

I worry about Jodi.

Are you sure? I thought the Latin for "wife killer" was "ifeway illerkay."

Did you make up "buzarre"?

:-)

One of our visitors once accused me of lacking reading skills. That is a dangerous thing to say to an editor :-)

Ig-pay atin-Lay.

Perhaps the phrase you are looking for is, "That takes care of YOU, b*tch!"

I think the buzarre is one of those big birds that come to Hinckley, Ohio every spring. They eat jackalopes and hodags.

No. On second thought, the phrase is, "I kept my promise."
