Thank you for publishing Paula Morris' guest column (The Star, Nov. 30). Make her a regular, please. Her articulate statement of the liberal position made this almost 72-year-old crone jump up and down and yell. (My dog thinks I'm demented but he has lots of company).
Ms. Morris is correct about the backlash. It can be vicious. As I drive to my office each day I pass a building with a sign in flashing light bulbs which has the statement ever since the mid-term election, "al-Qaida celebrates!"
Whoever is behind it has a right to his or her opinion but we who don't agree have a right to express ours without being labeled traitors.
I laud Ms. Morris for her column and The Star for publishing it. I don't know Ms. Morris but if the current administration has it's way, we may be in adjoining cells at Gitmo before long.

I had a discussion once with my friend's mother on the subject of abortion. I asked her a series of sincere questions about her opinions in order to get to the crux of our disagreement. Her answers were vague and non-substantive, so I continued to narrow the argument down further to its basic elements. When I finally narrowed it down to: "Is this thing I am holding in my hand (a fork) a metal object", she replied: "I don't know". I commented that if she doesn't know if it is a metal object, then she can't know anything, she exploded and stormed out of the room.
I wasn't invited over again for three years.
The mental picture I'm getting here is definitely not an attractive one.
I know a very annoying, 70-something, militant lefty old crone who could have easily written the same letter. Wears a variety of third world cultural jewelry & clothing. Spends Christmas meditating in Sedona, belongs to a drumming circle, practices reiki, and regularly walks the labyrinth she constructed in her yard. Has moped around looking like her dog just died ever since George W. Bush's election in 2000.
My mother knew this lady in college, where the woman was a sociology/anthropology major. Even at that age, the lady was about as attractive as Margaret Mead; now she's even less so.
Best advice with an old moonbat like this: if you can't completely avoid her, never EVER look her in the eye, or you will be on the receiving end of her rabid Bush derangement syndrome.

I have one loony lefty friend, and all of her political opinions ultimately come down to, "that's the way I feel."
