Another report of non-kosher food on El Al plane [illustrated by SILLY]

Another case of non-kosher food served on an El Al plane was reported on Thursday in the wake of Haredim and the El Al management seemingly heading toward compromise over a similar case reported on Tuesday and last week's Shabbat flight.

Army Radio reported that passengers were unknowingly served non-kosher sandwiches on a flight from Budapest last Thursday after the kosher food brought from Israel had spoiled due to the plane's long stay at Budapest airport as it was unable to depart due to the general strike in Israel.

El Al officials denied the report, saying that they had relayed a message to all passengers about the issue.

Meanwhile, people of another religion on another flight drank poison and played with rattlesnakes in order to prove a point. ...funeral services on Sunday.

Maybe this is funny to you, but I don't think it's funny to the hundreds of people who devote their lives to living a certain way to honor God, and then, by no fault of their own, have it all compromised. But go ahead and laugh...

Yep, it's all over, now they might as well eat shrimp and ham sandwiches with cheese....

You really think this is funny, don't you? Remind me to laugh the next time some Nativity scene is compromised or a cross is put into a jar of urine.

Have it "all" compromised? Do you really think that, through no fault of their own, their "lives" have been compromised because they ate a non-kosher sandwich? Let's dispense with the histrionics, shall we?

The key phrase here is 'by no fault of their own'. Their teaching is that it only dishonors God if they knowingly eat non-kosher food, so lighten up, nobody has been condemned to hell over this.

Better you should have said, this is FreeRepublic, I should have known what to expect. I love how everyone is outraged when something Christian is mocked, but every other religion is fair game.

I was questioning the motives of the person who thought this was funny and put up those ridiculous pictures.

Actually, Hildy, mature Christians are not the least bit threatened by having Nativity scenes "compromised" or crosses put in urine. A bit saddened, perhaps, but that's all. In fact, we can use those opportunities to reach out in love to those who hate Christ, and talk about issues of faith. Suffering and persecution only brings us joy.

What we have cannot be compromised by what we eat, or other external matters. What we have is eternal -- complete approval from God, resurrection from physical death, everlasting life -- and none of it earned by our religious actions, but given as a gift by Jesus.

Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?

Hildy, if the airline announced to all of the passengers that there was no Kosher food on board, then the passengers had the option to not eat. I doubt seriously that while they were in Budapest, they were able to observe all of the laws of Kashruth; however, even if they were, they didn't have to eat on the plane.

If my Jewish relatives (I was raised Jewish, but am no longer) come to my house and I tell them that I DON"T keep Kosher, it is their option to eat or not. If I tell them that I DO keep Kosher, but I don't, and they eat, the tsurris is on my head, not theirs

I'm not really concerned about the story, I'm concerned about the offensive illustration the poster Silly insisted on posting. Not funny and inappropriate. My people are being killed for no other reason than being Jewish. Am I being sensitive, YOU BET YOUR ASS I AM.

Give her some space: modern Jewish history is political and bloody. They are still G-d's Chosen People, and we should support them.

The notion of Divine Grace was not in the original Covenant of G-d to His Chosen until the new King of Israel. We, through the blood and incredible suffering of Our Lord and Savior, have a cultural and metaphysical advantage that allows us to relax a little more and make fun of ourselves, whereas Jewry has been persecuted for, oh, about 3000 years now, mostly violently. In a discrete sense, being Jewish is more demanding, faith-wise, than being Christian.

G-d doesn't break promises.
