Wow that is 58,906 miles per year. I thought that I drove alot at around 25,000 a year. I think that the average American drives around 12,000 per year.

She was tired of diesels!

Wow that is 58,906 miles per year. Call me skeptical, but as Rush says "run the numbers".
That is also 161 miles a day, 7 days a week.
He had to have used the car daily for work, unless he had a commute of 118 each way to work.

I think this line may give us a tip as to the reason for the high mileage:
Gilbert originally purchased the Saab new in November 1989
after the divorce of his wife.
Maybe he was making sure he kept his distance from his ex-spouse!
