OAS names New Mexico governor as migration envoy
AFP ^ | Dec 7,2006

Posted on 12/09/2006 9:18:48 AM PST by hedgetrimmer

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, a former UN ambassador, was named as the Organization of American States' special envoy on migration in an effort to improve US-Latin American dialogue.

The appointment came amid heated debate in the United States over illegal immigration, as US lawmakers consider proposals to deal with the 11.5 million undocumented workers, mostly Latin Americans, living in America.

"The migration issue is key to improving relations (between Latin America and the United States," Richardson, 59, said at a news conference alongside OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza.

"Dialogue and democracy are very important and I hope to help the secretary general with advice and trips to countries to improve dialogue," he said in Spanish.

Richardson said he was ready to visit leaders who have been critical of the United States in hopes of improving relations.

"I know president (elect of Nicaragua Daniel) Ortega, I know (Venezuelan) President (Hugo) Chavez, and I will go to any country," said Richardson, whose mother is Mexican.

Richardson, whose state borders Mexico, rejected plans backed by President George W. Bush to build a huge fence along the US-Mexico border to stop the flow of illegal immigration.

Instead, he called for comprehensive reform to regularize undocumented workers.

"Two things must take place. One, a plan to legalize the 12 million (illegal) immigrants in the United States, and I think that it is important to improve border security," he said, pointing to the need for increased patrols and more cooperation with Mexico.

Richardson was a UN ambassador and energy secretary under former president Bill Clinton. The Democrat has not ruled out running for his party's nomination in the 2008 presidential election.

It is up to the PEOPLE of New Mexico

Yes, they'd better get moving. Soon we'll be changing the name of their state to Old Mexico.

You're imagining things again, hedgetrimmer. (Just thought I'd throw that in before the open border minority did!)

Anyone that can't see the handwriting on the wall (or lack of wall) isn't trying. Be it "R" or be it "D", the fix is in.

I am researching right now, trying to determine what legitimacy this organization has. As far as I can tell, its purpose is two-fold: to be a UN-like body that superimposes "international law" over national sovereignty; and, that aims to remove trade barriers.

"The Organization of American States (OAS; OEA in the other three official languages) is an international organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States. Its members are the 35 independent states of the Americas." (wikipedia)

Richardson is not being appointed by the U.S. govt... altho the org. is HQ'd here ... but by an international body. It is not clear to me what this appointment means, but it seems inappropriate for a duly-elected governor of a U.S. state. He is supposed to be governing New Mexico, not fooling around in foreign affairs.

Yeah, riiiiight...

He is not a head of state, he is NOT a member of the state department, and he has not been approved by the U.S. Senate, and therefore is not legally elegeable for this position.

Looks like his FIRST allegiance is to this international organization, on whose behalf he will be lobbying WITHIN this nation for open borders.

AND, he sits in the Governor's chair for another 4 years ... well, technically. As we know, Governors are well-positioned to become Presidential candidates and, then, President.

Wonder how his fund-raising is coming along...

No American is legally eligible for the job. The purpose of the OAS is to further the "Bolivian" revolution, that is the idea of Simon Bolivar to create one country out of the western hemisphere.

Richardson is fully in line with our President however, his daughter is working for the UN in South America. The same president whose just bought land in Paraguay, ostensibly to retire there.

Our government is almost completely corrupt at this point.

The Republican Party and the sitting Republican president are going to do everything in their power to 'regularize' the millions of 3rd world, Liberal, Marxist/Socialists that will ensure that Bill Richardson or someone more Liberal than him occupies the White House and has the majority of seats in the U.S. Congress for the rest of eternity.

Ronald Reagan is rolling in his grave at the speed of light.

If you haven't seen this website, try it. The Bush administration and the State Department approve. Of course, Colin Powell approves as he signed us into this mess on 9/11 .

http://www.state.gov/p/wha/rls/rm/2006/73727.htm

This is the resolution that I guess gives Bush the opportnity to give away billions in American taxpayer dollars. Notice the signing date.

While the 2 yahoos were talking about "regularization" with Mexico and the rest of Latin America with taxpayer dollars, we get attacked.
