A brief look at geography will tell you that Texas has a rather long border with another country.

A brief look at politics will tell you that the border is porous to the point of being non-existent and is likely to remain so.

The last time I checked, cigarettes may be bought across that border for somewhere between $0.75 and $3.00 per carton, depending upon the quantity and the source.

Hello, black market and all the joys that brings.

Have you seen this yet?

May have to rethink all that Texas pride.

Both are talking about the $1 increase in the tax on a pack of cigarettes that Texas smokers will start paying Jan. 1 as part of the sweeping overhaul of the state’s school finance system

Where is the nexus here?

I thought schoolkids couldn't smoke.

1. Establish web site for tobacco.
2. Obtain product by crossing state lines.
3. Sell thru web site.

I find it easier and legally to inject my own tubes.

You may start seeing military families selling smokes and dip from their cars.

And you will see a big increase in sales by Indian Reservations.

May I suggest the Premier Excel injector, ZigZag filtered tubes, and whatever tobacco for your taste. 6 bucks a carton to do it yourself. (you can watch the Detroit Lions lose another game while you save 50 bucks)

Watcha talkin' bout Willis?

Are you implying that your are a Ward of the State?

Do you need Gubmint to price "stuff" out of your range in order to COERCE YOU to give in to the Leviathan State and quit?

So when (not if) Big Macs cost $14, you will eat Bruxelle Sprouts?

We can quit smoking...the Democrats and liberals can't quit taxing and spending. It's who they are.

Boy, without a doubt!!!!  The lawmakers suck!

Huge cigarette taxes don't do anything except make pork for politicians. "When you're too spineless to cut spending, stick it to the smokers and claim it's for their own good!"

I quit smoking last week. I decided I was unwilling to give the government any more tax money, and it is just becoming too big a pain in the neck to find places to eat.

We are taking our family to Disney World this summer, and it will simply not be practical to continue smoking when the airlines, many of the hotels, and the theme parks only allow smoking in certain unfindable areas.

When enough of us quit, perhaps they will find something else to tax, like fast food.

Hypocrites, all of them.

Well, if that is what you want, I am happy for you.  That is why I have been rolling my own now for over 4 years.  I still get to enjoy smoking without paying into the horrible coffers in this state.

If I still traveled, it wouldn't be by plane.  I would have a motor home so I could travel in comfort and still enjoy cigarettes.

Depending on what state you go through, there are still lovely restaurants where one can still find smoking areas.

Have fun and stay safe!

Not only the taxing poison of smoking, but what about the poison of drinking. Just think about how much money could be brought in by taxing beer and wine like cigarettes.

About 45% to 50% of the cost of a bottle of distilled spirits in federal excise tax.

What we as smoking, tax paying citizens of Texas are forgetting is that there is a process in which we can call for a recall of a bill ,such as this on,and request that it be put to a vote. Currently I am forming a petition to do just that. This bill was pushed down our throats, with little notice and is discriminatory in that it targets only one section of tabacco products. We can as citizens demand a recall of this bill or as they did in California recall the Governor.
The more logical means of generating revenue for decreasing property taxes would be to cut out the general fund that is generated by the lottery and apply these funds toward the reduction of property taxes. By the way Govenor Perry, we are still waitnig for the $1,500 checks you claimed to have given us in your campaign ads.

All the online Indian smoke shops require you send a check (can call and give routing number off check) or money order instead of credit card now.

Here's mine:

Maybe I'll get brave and start rolling my own soon.
