DIVERSITY HOAX EXPOSED
Catholic League ^ | 12.06.06 | Bill Donohue

Posted on 12/09/2006 9:36:16 PM PST by Coleus

Catholic League president Bill Donohue released the following statement today on the Christmas wars:

“The secular crusaders who want to neuter Christmas say ad nauseam that the reason why we have to give more attention to holidays other than Christmas is due to the increasingly diverse composition of our nation and the world. But it is a hoax: the evidence is just the opposite.

“According to Boston University professor Stephen Prothero, America now has more Christians than any other nation in history (Christian Science Monitor, 12-23-03). ‘In terms of religious background,’ writes Hoover Institution scholar Dinesh D’Souza, ‘America is no more diverse today than it was in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries’ (The Enemy at Home: The Cultural Left and Its Responsibility for 9/11). Indeed, Penn State professor Philip Jenkins maintains that the U.S. is becoming more Christian (The Next Christendom: The Coming of Global Christianity). As for the world’s religious population, we are also becoming less diverse: in 1900, 50 percent of the world was either Catholic, Protestant, Muslim or Hindu; in 2000, these groups constituted 64 percent, in 2025 they are projected to make up 70 percent (Shah and Duffy, “Why God is Winning,” Foreign Policy, 7-1-06).

“Hanukkah, which is a minor holiday in the Jewish calendar, is not being celebrated today more than ever before because there are more Jews: in fact, only 1 percent of America is Jewish (Newsweek, 9-5-05); in 1955, the figure was 4 percent (Will Herberg, Protestant, Catholic, Jew). Nor are we celebrating Kwanzaa more than ever before because African Americans have rallied to this African holiday: only 2 percent of Americans, or about 15 percent of blacks, celebrate the holiday (Fox News Poll, 12-9-03); and Kwanzaa has nothing to do with Africa—it was invented in 1966 by an ex-con.

“The diversity hoax is being sold as a rationale to nullify Christmas. It’s also because the multicultural industry is big business.”

"He's absolutely correct."

Not exactly. He says: "As for the world’s religious population, we are also becoming less diverse: in 1900, 50 percent of the world was either Catholic, Protestant, Muslim or Hindu; in 2000, these groups constituted 64 percent, in 2025 they are projected to make up 70 percent (Shah and Duffy, “Why God is Winning,” Foreign Policy, 7-1-06)."

With all due respect, the growth of Islam has nothing to do with God winning. It is a direct challenge to God by someone else. It's a one-two punch. Secular-humanists on one side. Muslims on the other. Yet one day, every knee, even Osama Bin Laden's and Ward Churchill's, will bow before Him. May God bless them all and may even they take up their crosses and follow Him.

Whenever I am wished "happy holidays" I reply that I only celebrate ONE holiday.

Yep. Us agnostics and atheists are the fastest growing "creed", at least in the United States.

You wrote, " Us agnostics and atheists are the fastest growing "creed", at least in the United States."

A former atheist myself, I tend to doubt those segments of the population professing agnosticism and atheism are growing any faster than the birth rate--in my view, your like-minded associates are simply becoming even more vociferous, and squeaky wheels like Dawkins get more media 'grease'. Of course, I haven't looked at the numbers lately, so for all I know, atheists and agnostics might be more numerous than, say, Presbyterians. I guess we'll soon be seeing atheist softball leagues and agnostic bowling teams. The social aspects of shared skepticism are limitless and largely unexplored. Have fun.

When I was a nonbeliever, I never felt any driving urge to proselytize my unfaith, which is why, I suppose, guys like Dawkins get under my skin so much. When did freethinkers become so narrow in their outlook, so closed in their thinking?

You misunderstood me. I was just pointing out that it seems to me (and surveys seem to bear this out) that non-believers and skeptics have grown at a faster rate than affiliated Christians over the past 30 years. I have no faith to proselytize, nor do I intend to form the Princeton area chapter of Agnostic Marketing Professional Gun Owners of America.

BTW: As far as Dawkins is concerned, there was a rather hilarious episode of South Park that featured Dr. Dick not too long ago.

To hell with what "seems" to be. Show me facts. Where do you find these "surveys" that you put in parentheses?

You make some very good points--especially the one about never having "felt any driving urge to proselytize my unfaith" at an earlier time. My guess is that there are simply fewer skeptics and freethinkers, in the traditional sense of those terms; and more sophomore atheists than in the past.

Serious skepticism and freethinking are understandable enough; but doctrinaire atheism is as much an unprovable dogma as anything it purports to oppose.

Anyway, I liked your comments, and was especially impressed by your profile. Like you, I have gradually come to some conclusions that are very different than the ones I began with.

The only reason Islam is growing is because Muslims are having more children than Christians, at this point.

"Yet one day, every knee, even Osama Bin Laden's and Ward Churchill's, will bow before Him. May God bless them all and may even they take up their crosses and follow Him."

Not according to scripture. The beasts armies have an unpleasant date with God's wrath.

"See how the Lord lays the earth waste, makes it a desert, buckles its surface, scatters its inhabitants, priest and people alike, master and slave, mistress and maid, seller and buyer, lenderer and borrower, creditor and debtor. Ravaged, ravaged the earth, despoiled, despoiled, as God has said. " (Is.24:1-3).

"For they have transgressed the law, violated the precept, broken the everlasting covenant. So a curse consumes the earth and its inhabitants suffer the penalty, that is why the inhabitants of the earth are burnt up and few men are left." (Is.24:5-6).

"When I extinguish you I will cover the skies, and darken the stars. I will cover the sun with clouds and the moon will not give its light. I will dim every luminary in heaven for you, and cover your country in darkness -- it is the Lord God who speaks." (Ez.32:7-8).

"I will punish him with plague and bloodshed and send torrential rain, hailstones, fire and brimstone against him and his hordes and against the many nations with him...you shall be killed on the mountains of Israel, you and all your hordes, and the nations with you." (Ez.38:22-23, 39:4).

"...all these things are going to happen when he who crushes the power of the holy people meets his end." (Dn.12:7).

"All this is going to happen, all this is going to take place -- it is the Lord God who speaks. This is the day I predicted." (Ez.39:8).

Only those who follow Christs path will be taken to the new world. This one ends. Christs millenium rule is near it's end.

HUH?

An increase in the MUSLIM population is evidence that "God is Winning"?
