"We know exactly what the terrorist regimes in Tehran and Damascus want: They want us defeated, they want to control Iraq, they want to control Lebanon, they want to control all the Middle, all its oil resources, they want nuclear weapons, and they want to destroy us and Israel. If you do not know this by now, then you are in a very pathetic state.

I'm sure a lot of people in DC, London, and Tel Aviv would want to talk with you since you know "exactly" what the motivations and geopolitical aspirations of Syria and Iran are. The only thing that is certain is that Iran will always have considerable influence in Iraq unless we anihilate them. They will have this influence because the Iranian regime has had long-time relations with Iraq's Shiite Arabs, and Iran is a regional power.

As of right now, there has been no indication that the US has any intentions of going to war in Iran, so we have two other options. We can continue to write nasty letters and call for "strong consequences" and partake in other gratuitous and hollow rhetoric, or we can negotiate with Iran and see if we can get them to be more cooperative in stabalizing Iraq. We have good relations and negotiate with Saui Arabia who has elements of its government supporting Al Qaeda in Iraq and other elements of the Sunni insurgency. The fact is there are two ways to conduct international relations. You can either negotiate with other nations or you can fight them. Giving them the silent treatment like a 10 year old girl accomplishes nothing.

"PS: We did not negotiate with Nazi Germany, or Imperial Japan, or Fascist Italy, we defeated them."

Actually we negotiated and had relations with Imperial Japan for about 90 years before we went to war with them, and we had relations with Hitler and Mussolini as well prior to the war. We even attended Hitler's Olympics in Munich. And as I pointed out in my original post, we negotiated with Stalin and other leaders in the USSR for 70 years. We negotiated with China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine, Libya, Indonesia, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia. Not talking to Iran seems odd considering we have no intention of taking military action against them at this time, and we have relations with nations that are at the very least an equal threat to American security.

In regards to the DC, and London I would love to tell them exactly who are we fighting since I was born and raised in Lebanon and lived there during the civil war before I moved to the US. So yes, I have seen the terrorist enemy, I know the terrorist enemy and I suffered the terrorist enemy.

Fortunately, President Bush understands the enemy and who will not give up to appeasers among us but lead us to victory.

The terrorist regimes in Iran and Syria will love defeatists or may be ignorant people like you, you and people like you are their "useful idiots".

Idiots! Iran and Syria are the perpetrators and enablers of the violence in Iraq.

LA Slimes. Must have interviewed mostly illegals to get these results. Americans have forgotten 9-1-1. It is old news. To most, as far away as the civil war or war of 1812. Americans are too fat, to interested in x-box, reality TV, sports, cars, fast food, TV, movies, sex, drugs, boozing. Americans talk the talk, most mostly do not walk the walk. Americans have no patience. They want it now. They treat the war on terror like a drive thru hamburger place. They want the military to drive through and have the war over in 15 minutes, no waiting, super size the fries, and give me 15% off that price, with no casualties. Nope, American is slowing sliding down the slope into history. Soon, this republic will be no more as founded. It will, like all great nations, slip into history, replaced by stupidity, as were most of the others. I am in my late 50s. I see it happening in my life time. I really believe that. I only hope to God that it slows down and I don't have to witness the fall. It will not be pretty. I truly have no optimism for the long term future of the Republic. Not with the current state of affairs. Only an election or two ago, they spoke of the republicans running the government for the next 25 years. Ha. They could not maintain it for 8 years. The dims have congress. Wait till they get the White House along with those. They will stack the deck to keep all three after that. They will not let themselves lose control again. They won't give us the chance to get rid of them.

Americans have no patience.

TV has conditioned most Americans to believe that crises last for an hour, only to be resolved in the final 5 minutes.

we are doing nothing right now

Oh? 'We' have been talking with both Iran and Syria all along. Iran has been unwilling to reestablish regular diplomatic relations.

I remember Clinton was big on polls.

Bush is a little more of a leader.

Another stupid LA Times poll! This is the third one this morning. My guess is that they just asked the same people all the questions, and they are all push polls, anyway.

Someone here at good ol FR had a tagline that read something along the lines of "Violence is the most direct and sincere form of communication".

That is the kind of "Direct Talks With Iran, Syria" that I want.

Yes, I understand the distinction. But, I would bet that Bill kept polls in his pants, too, close to the organ he does most of his thinking with. :-)

Sorry but Iran and Syria are third-world failed states that pose no legitimate threat to America. They are regional threats to the middle east that threaten their neighbors. They pose no threat to US interests outside that region. Their militaries have 1970s technology and we have the most powerful military in the history of the world. Any American who is afraid of Iran and Syria is the useful idiots because nations like Russia, Pakistan, and China are far greater threats to the US.

You have a personal stake in wanting war with Iran and Syria because they wronged you in your home country. The US military is not a police force and is not responsible for righting all the world's wrongs. We need oil from the middle east and that is it. We need to stop concerning ourselves with the plight of everybody in the region because the entire region is a mess and a headache for the entire world.

Perhaps useful idiots like me would be more inclined to go to war with Iran and Syria if their was any indication that our government would actually fight to win and destroy our enemies, rather than taking part in nation building like we are in Iraq.
