MIAMI Republican Representative Tom Tancredo, of Colorado, will not make a speech and appearance before the Miami Rotary Club in Miami Thursday after threats were reported. However, its still not known whether the congressman, who called Miami a Third World country has cancelled his trip to Miami altogether.
The manager of the restaurant where Tancredo was to speak, The Rusty Pelican on Key Biscayne, said Wednesday that the owners didnt want him to appear on Thursday in order to keep up the integrity and reputation of the business. The manager also said staff members objected to working the party where his immigration talk was supposed to be held, some customers threatened to boycott the restaurant, and the restaurant had received bomb threats.
Tancredo became a controversial figure in Miami, and sparked a tense exchange with Florida Governor Jeb Bush last month, when he compared Miami to a Third World country due to the large number of immigrants living there.
He said that immigrants who came to Miami, both legal and illegal, have not learned English and live in insular communities with high crime rates and low high school graduation rates. That has made parts of the city and surrounding areas like a Third World country, he said.
Following the very public spat with Gov. Jeb Bush, the congressman was invited to speak at Thursdays Miami Rotary Club meeting but a new speaker has now been scheduled in his place.
Tancredos spokesman Carlos Espinosa, told CBS4S Natalia Zea over the phone that the Congressmans office is still considering whether or not hell come to Miami Thursday because his office has also received death threats. And that he said, proves Tancredos point. What is more Third World country than threatening to bomb the place, Espinosa said.
CBS4 News spoke to the City of Miami Police Department which says the only threat they are investigating regarding Rep. Tancredos visit is an email to our news partners at the Miami Herald.
Free Speech....liberal style.
Stalinism is taking root in the US.
Gee, threatening Tandcredo with death is a sure way to prove you're not like a Third World Country.
Sounds like the muslims threatening the pope with death b/c he said they were violent.
Was it the threats or the above? Maybe a combination of the two.
ZEESE EES NOT A TURD WORLD COUNTRY! WE WEEEL KEEEL YOU IF YOU SAY DAT AGAIN!.....
He made that "Third World Country" comment in Palm Beach which didn't help either. LOL
I swear it wasn't me!
Who are these pukes?

The threats may have been made by offended conservatives. My inclination is to think they were.
The guy's a loud-mouthed twit with no actual workable suggestions other than his bigotry. There's only one "threat" even being investigated, so it sounds to me like the owners of the Rusty Pelican wondered if they really wanted to be associated with somebody who hates their customers (people from Miami).
I went to hear Randall Terry, who I really wanted to like, and he spewed anti-Hispanic garbage that essentially cost him the primary (RINO Jim King is not popular) and probably drove voters away from the GOP. Tancredo is doing the same. I think Tancredo needs to make a retreat and ask himself a few deep and personal questions.
That was a stupid move on his part. He's going to have to deal with it now if he runs for president. It won't help him one bit!
Yeah, it's a miracle he keeps getting re-elected by the people in his district, huh? The people of Littleton, CO are obviously hateful racists.
Tancredo has always been on the front-lines in the war against illegal immigration and has a strong conservative record to back it up.
"The guy's a loud-mouthed twit with no actual workable suggestions other than his bigotry."
Little sensetive are We? I've heard Tancredo speak on many occasions and never heard a bigoted word from his mouth.
Bigot: a person who holds a prejudice against a racial or religious group. (I guess 80% of the US pop. are bigoted.}
To borrow a tagline, ILLEGAL ALIENS AREN'T A RACE!
What about a decent guest worker program that would actually admit enough Latin Americans to do the farm work, care for the elderly, etc., jobs that a mere glance can tell you native born Americans are not willing to do? And a guest worker program that would actually let these people go home again legally? Bush would have done that, had it not been for the nativist group in the GOP, and you all actually would have been a lot happier because there would have been a decent legal solution to the problem.
Not to mention the fact that the only real, proven terrorists who have come into this country have come in either (a) legally from their ME place of origin or (b) across the Canadian border. But I guess you'd rather have Muslims than Hispanics.
Ah, played the race card like a true lib.
This guy Tancredo is a flame thrower/loose mouth, it is not a very wise move to come to a city after making some racist statements against its residents. While he has his first amendment rights and should be protected from intimidation, free speech does not mean irresponsible and stupid behaviour. No wonder national Republicans avoid him and his platform.
