A man was fatally shot Wednesday evening in southwest Houston while eating crawfish at a Cajun restaurant, the Houston Police Department said. The 29-year-old man was seated while eating in the Cajun Kitchen at 11900 Bellaire around 9 p.m. when two men entered and shot him in the head, police said. The owner of the restaurant chased the suspects and fired several shots at the gunmen before they escaped.

The victim was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

Pappadeaux is our favorite, but Ragin Cajun is good too

Don't forget Jazz, which originated in the Hubaroo.

Have you tried the Ragin' Cajun? If they don't have any crawdads, try the etouffee. Man oh MAN, is that good stuff! And their red beans and rice might be the best in town.

You're right. Their etouffee is excellent (I'm remembering the smell and taste.... mmmmmmm), as is most everything else.

Never could eat the crawdads, though -- it looked too much like a plate heaped high with giant cockroaches.

Oh, you really must come up and visit! Jazz-A Louisiana Kitchen. It's a Cajun restaurant that started in Lubbock and now has locations throughout the U.S. Austin has one. And there is one in either Kansas City or St. Louis. The one in Lubbock is next to Covenant Hospital.

Frozen!!!!!!NEVER. Boiled live using Zaterain's, onions, and anything else that will make them spicy. Then start sucking heads and pinching tails.

Not bad? It is a HIDEOUS part of town. It's not a slum quite yet, but it's this close and has been for years.

It is pretty bad, but not the worst. I drive through there every day! The restaurant is located at the Kirkwood intersection in Alief. Years ago my car broke down at S. Braeswood at Gessner -- I had to get out and walk to a convenience store to call the wrecker. The store clerk suggested that I stand *behind* the counter for safety until the wrecker arrived. Now THAT was scarey!

When I watch the local news and the death and destruction stories from the night before, I only pay attention to the locations of the violent crimes. Most of the time it is the SW side of town, though yesterday I heard of a older couple getting shot in their home in Kingwood.(NE side of town where I live) Criminals have cars and can travel anywhere but the SW side has gangs.

I live in west Houston where the violent gangs and criminals are out of control. A sheriff recently told my friend that crime in our neighborhood during the past year has increased so tremendously that it exceeds all the crime of the last 25 years combined! Two days ago that same friend had a close encounter of the unpleasent kind. He lives in a "nice neighborhood". He was puttering in the garage when he heard footsteps coming up the driveway and took notice. A large Hispanic male approached the garage, saying he needed someone to drive him to a nearby flea market (within walking distance) on nearby Hwy 6. My friend replied that he was busy and does not give rides to strangers. The visitor entered into the garage as my friend backed up further in the garage, cornered. The intruder said menacingly as he still advanced, "Let me explain the situation...". My friend suddenly drew and pointed his pistol and replied, "The new situation is that I will blow your head off if you take one more step!". The thug withdrew, amid a torrent of curses. Simply amazing. That is one of the millions of exchanges that the NRA says happens each year without shots being fired.
