It is anecdotal, but the question was asked.

By the way, for the record, I was about 8 months ahead of the Duncan supporters here. That is when I started researching the guy, and asked friends that knew him what he was like personally. And I think the fact that he gave thousands of dollars from his own campaign funds to leave those gallons of water in the desert for illegals coming into this country will inoculate him from the racist charges you have to know will be coming.

We're looking for a Reagan, and Duncan Hunter seems pretty darn close.

As for name recognition, that'll come if he can win a few primaries. It's up to Hunter and the grass roots (that would be us, folks) to get him those first few primaries. Then the name recognition issue goes away.

As for the argument that a congressman can't win, that's usually true. Usually governors beat legislators. But this isn't a usual election. All the big Dem names, with the exception of Gore, are legislators. That should serve to level the playing field, since most of the candidates will have legislative records to run on, or run away from, as the case may be.

Count me on the Hunter bandwagon--best of luck to him.

I'm nauseated by all the other choices. I've really and truly had it with RINOS, libertine-arians, so-called fiscal conervative/social liberal Republicans, the RNC supporting liberal candidates, and so on. I will read whatever I find about D.Hunter.

Duncan Hunter looks like a great guy with an excellent record. I have no problem supporting him, and as a matter of fact, I will support him.

However, if the posts on this thread made almost 10 hours ago is an indication of Hunter's ability to unite conservatives (in a primarily conservative forum,) just imagine how he will be viewed by the general voting public.

Anyway, I will support him and I will continue to support Rudy, and let's see who fares better in the public arena, because in the end, the one who has more acceptance among the GOP is the one who will win the primaries.

You know, I was depressed after the 2006 elections, but 2008 seems like an exciting time. I'm looking forward to a spirited debate among ourselves provided the debate is civil and devoid of childish behavior. And since I will be supporting Hunter, it'll be funny when someone calls me a liberal republican.

There is an interesting dynamic in his family. His brother heads a group that leaves water and supplies in the desert areas to help illegals coming into the country. He buries the food and the gallons of water all over the area, with flags showing the illegals where to dig.
