The statement is correct, but the reasons why it is correct are faulty.
Based on the current condition of the RNC base, we are likely to lose our collective asses no matter who we put up.
The odds are better with a moderate who can garner swing votes from the other side to replace defecting Republicans, but the outcome will depend on who makes it through the Dem primaries.
I think that summarizes it nicely IMO....
I think it is a rational position to believe that who ever wins, will be less conservative than GWB, or at best a different flavor, and that is the current state of the political winds.
To believe anything else is based on hubris and not reality..
Please don't do yourself the disservice of believing that that which is not consistent with your own opinion is hubris.
Worry about the base all you want. People who say we can't depend on the base to vote for a conservative president have to explain why a bunch of social conservative Dems knocked of Republicans on 7 November. Those who say we can run Rudy McRomney and get more votes have to explain why a public that likes left-leaners threw out a congress full of overspending moderates who look like McCain.
