Carter Nixes Debate With Outspoken Prof
The Associated Press ^ | Dec 15

Former President Carter turned down a request to debate Alan Dershowitz about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying the outspoken Harvard law professor "knows nothing about the situation."

Carter, author of a new book advocating "peace not apartheid" in the region, said he will not visit Brandeis University to discuss the book because the university requested he debate Dershowitz.

"I don't want to have a conversation even indirectly with Dershowitz," Carter said in Friday's Boston Globe. "There is no need ... to debate somebody who, in my opinion, knows nothing about the situation in Palestine."

"President Carter said he wrote the book because he wanted to encourage more debate; then why won't he debate?" said Dershowitz,...

Brandeis was founded in 1948 as a nonsectarian university under the sponsorship of the American Jewish community. Carter said he initially was interested in going there.

"I thought it would be a good idea to go to a campus that had a lot of Jewish students and get a lot questions," he said. But then the initial proposal evolved into a plan for a debate.

"There is no need ... to debate somebody who, in my opinion, knows nothing about the situation in Palestine."

Too bad the "superior intellect" of Carter won't use this opportunity to teach the world. Liberal idiots such as Carter won't debate because their ideas can't stand up to the slightest scrutiny so they have to force them on people without questions being asked. This is why liberals must have their activist judges - because they can't get their socialist/communist ideas implemented by discussion and vote.

Now if it were a conservative who canceled their debate appearance the MSM would make it front page news, mocking him. I won't hold my breath on this news item.

Carter said the PROFESSOR knows NOTHING about the situation...

The FIRST and FOREMOST trait of a true liberal is ARROGANCE. Carter abounds in arrogance.

It does look pretty fierce. Worthy of at least a few good girly shrieks and paddle whackings from Jimmy.

Carter's press secretary Jody Powell: "What was obvious, however, was that this large, wet animal, making strange hissing noises and gnashing its teeth, was intent upon climbing into the Presidential boat."

Must be a thrill to be known as the worst president and ex-president. The man has either had a stroke or is suffering from some chemical imbalance. Whatever the case, he does not deserve a pass. Someone (like the professor) needs to challenge his sorry a$$ so the country can see what a pathetic POS he is.

"I don't want to have a conversation even indirectly with Dershowitz," Carter said in Friday's Boston Globe.

"He's not a fawning sycophant like the media, and he'll hold me to account for my anti-semitic views, as well as my logical fallacies. Without THOSE, I can't build a case."

"There is no need ... to debate somebody who, in my opinion, knows nothing about the situation in Palestine."

I know. But Dershowitz is willing to debate you anyway.

Kerry's disease must be contagius. Now Carter is saying, "I was for the debate before I was against the debate".

A rabbit with rabies might behave like that. I wonder how many people here would want to share their boat with a rabid rabbit for a while?

As for Carter the "world peace maker", Jimmie is definitely a "legend in is own mind", and avoiding Dershowitz indicates a slight connection with reality as well as a desire to preserve the illusion a little longer that he might have something useful to say on the subject.

Dershowitz should have the debate with an empty chair, with some good reader behind a curtain reading portions from JC's book, which could them be publically ripped to shreds as he could do if JC were there in the flesh.

It would be good theater. I think that approach has been used with some success in the past by challengers to an office holder who tries to duck debates. This would be a great time to give it a try.

"There is no need ... to debate somebody who, in my opinion, knows nothing about the situation in Palestine."

What arrogance. I disagree with Alan Dershowitz on practically everything, but to say he "knows nothing about the situation in Palestine" is just ridiculous and rude, considering that Dershowitz has written books on the issue.

But rudeness is unfortunately becoming President Carter's cardinal feature. I say that with some real sadness, because I believe President Carter to be a Christian and would like to give him the benefit of the doubt.

You read his book on terrorism? I would highly recommend it if not. I disagree with his politics but I think he's got his head screwed on right concerning Islam and terrorism.
