Sen. Hillary Clinton told a TV audience of 3 million women yesterday that the nation has "never had a mother" be President. Appearing on "The View" to push the 10th anniversary reissue of her book "It Takes a Village," Clinton chatted about family Christmases and raising kids these days.
The former First Lady noted, "We've never had a mother who ever ran for or held that position."
Clinton also acknowledged that the concept of electing a female President is "such a leap of faith."
The senator, considered the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, raised the issue after conceding this week she didn't know if the country was ready for a female President, but added, "We need to try."
Clinton spent most of her time on "The View" talking about the difficulties of parenting - topics that play well with the show's 3 million-strong audience of women 18 to 49.
A recent Emily's List survey found younger women and moms were a key segment of voters who defected from the GOP last month and could go Democratic in 2008.
"I think it's harder and harder to navigate the world as a young parent," Clinton said, commiserating with the hosts over the dangers of Internet predators, TV violence and video games.
Offering a warmer side of herself, the senator seen by some as cold and calculating talked about the Clinton holiday ritual of church on Christmas Eve, decorating the tree, then opening presents in the morning.

Are they behind her or between her thighs?
And always has been, that is Hillary
She's hoping that fifty-one percent of them are!
I am a woman, and a Mother, and I don't think there is a woman(and very few men) alive that has the "balls" (excuse that crude term) that has what it takes to protect this country as Commander and Chief.
Yeah, she's a mother alright.
I don't even think Hillary makes a good Mommy period.
No kidding....Bill made a better mother than Hillary....even Chelsea knew that..."don't call my mom, she's too busy, call my dad"!
A mother is someone who raises their kids, not someone who passes them off to nannies and daycare centers so she can be a politician and legal firm rainmaker. Someone who only bakes cookies as a PR stunt isn't a mother.
There are sperm donors who are not fathers and there are egg donors who are not mothers.
A few years back, PIAPS -- during my lurking years -- some here used if as an acronym for "Pig In A Pantsuit".
So far as I know, I alone use it today. But to me it seems spot on.
BIG MOTHER IS WATCHING YOU!
review
The left wants the gov't to be the Mommy for everyone, so it "makes sense" to them to have a Mommy President.
Yeah, well; for that matter we've never had somebody in that position who dumped a former lover's body in Fort Marcy Park, either.
What ever happened to "it takes a Village"? Aren't mothers irrelevant?
"She just goes a little mad sometimes. We all go a little mad sometimes. Haven't you?"
If she is on the ballot for President, then 43% of those who vote in the electorate will blindly choose her because she is a Democrat. So, as a point of fact, she is correct in the assumption about gullible idiots.
Remember, 49% of the American public have IQs less than 100; as such, they have an arithmetic propensity, as IQ lowers, to make decisions on emotion, not rationale.
Uh, no Hillary.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_female_United_States_presidential_and_vice-presidential_candidates lists women who have run for president. Even the first one, Victoria Woodhull, was a mother. Others were too. Hillary, tell the truth for once.
