Israeli think tank says only military strike will stop Iran: Report
International Herald Tribune ^ | 12/22/2006

JERUSALEM: Nothing short of a military strike will stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, an Israeli newspaper quoted a respected Israeli think tank as concluding on Friday.

"There is no longer a possibility for effective sanctions to stop Iran," retired Brig.-Gen. Zvi Shtauber, of Tel Aviv University's Institute for National Security Studies, told The Jerusalem Post.

"Our conclusion is that without military action you won't be able to stop Iran," Shtauber said.

Shtauber and former Israel Air Force intelligence officer Yiftah Shapir compiled the institute's annual report on the military balance in the Middle East.

Shtauber would not comment on The Jerusalem Post article, and said he would not comment on the report until it is released Jan. 2. Shapir also declined to comment.

It will slow them down, but not stop them. Even after a devastating strike, the same people who started and run this program will still be in place, and you can be sure they'll restart the program before the smoke even clears.

Nothing short of a regime change in Tehran will change the situation in any meaningful way. There may not be much of a stomach for it, but it's time to take the government of Iran down.

Let me also add that any attack must be devoid of polictically correct constraints. Israel and the world saw what happened in the last battle when PC reigned supreme: Israel lost.

While a regime change would certainly be welcomed, I dont think Israel can wait that long. National survival can't wait for anything.

Unless they use nukes, Israel doesn't have the ability to do a meaningful strike on Iran.

This report was intended to sway the US into doing the job.
Sorry Israel, but the US was self neutered in November, so you folks better prepare to use your "Sampson Option."

A strike won't end it... it will only signal the start of the real war. I don't see the current government in Israel risking full-blown war to stop it... and I'm beginning to doubt our own will to do so as well.

I totally agree johnny. Our enemies said we didn't have the stomach for war and they're right, we don't. We're a nation of wimps. GW could've changed that by displaying some real leadership, but his "be nice to the democrats" philosophy backfired horribly and now he and the country are paying the price. We need a real leader, someone with the cojones to tell the country what's what and to bitchslap the democrats like they haven't been bitchslapped before. Just my two cents...

After the CINO's turned America's government in 2007 over to the Hate America Liberals to teach us a lesson, Israel has to realize that they will be destroyed sometime in 2007 by Iran.

Israel must take out the Iranian Islamofacist command and Iran's nuclear capability before the rats take over Congress next year. Israel will probably do the same to Syria.

Iran defies United Nations with pledge of 'going nuclear within weeks'
The Daily Telegraph ^ | December 22, 2006 | Alex Spillius

Posted on 12/21/2006 7:19:48 PM PST by MadIvan

Iran defied imminent United Nations sanctions over its nuclear programme yesterday and pledged that it would become a member of the nuclear club within weeks.

After weeks of haggling between major world powers, a resolution is expected to be approved by the UN Security Council before Christmas.

"The nature of this resolution is not capable of pressuring Iran, and Iran will give an appropriate response to it," said Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, and main negotiator on atomic issues. "This behaviour will just create more problems."

Following Iran's failure to halt sensitive nuclear fuel work, the resolution is expected to ban imports and exports of materials and technology relating to uranium enrichment, reprocessing and heavy-water reactors, as well as ballistic missile delivery systems.

Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, yesterday reiterated a prediction that Iran will announce going nuclear in February during celebrations of the 1979 Islamic revolution against the Shah.

Addressing a rally in west Iran, he said his country's nuclear plans would inspire other nations. He revelled in mocking President George W Bush and the West.

"Some so-called superpowers... think that they can control the whole world," he said. "I'm telling them: Open your eyes, today, the world no longer thinks your decisions have any value."

His typically outspoken remarks came after the American president said his Iranian counterpart was out of step with the rest of the world. On a tour of the Middle East this week Tony Blair called on moderate Muslim states to line up against Iran, which he accused of supporting extremist elements in southern Iraq and Lebanon.

Since his surprising election victory last year, Mr Ahmadinejad has accelerated Iran's nuclear programme, which western powers suspect is aimed at producing nuclear weapons in five to 10 years.

Mr Ahmadinejad has said Israel should be "wiped off the map".

As soon as amahlongadingdong gets the bomb, he'll use it on Israel. The jooos will then turn iran into glass. Since much of Israel will be radioactive, the palis won't want to stay there and the few remaining Jews will be welcomed {with open arms} back to Germany for treatment. All problems solved, peace on earth. S/off

Israel is right. Any country that thinks another country should be "wiped off the face of the Earth," should be wiped off the face of the Earth.

Agreed. A strike at Iran will be perceived as a strike at Islam and that's when all hell will break loose.

I don't know why but for some reason, based on actions to date, our government just doesn't seem to understand the importance Islam plays in all aspects of the Middle East countries. For people with high degree of intellect they certainly show high degree of ignorance.

They know it... but they don't want to upset the applecart. The applecart being their jobs... their party... their career aspirations... and basically, the status-quo. Almost half the nation agree's with inaction anyway... and with this, they have cover. What they WANT... is for Islam to demonstrate its agenda in the most telling of ways imaginable.

The vaporization of one or more, major, US cities.
