well you are a die hard buckeye if still cheering on the Browns (you & me & Condi?).... snugs also has a Browns sweat shirt & T-shirt ..from me!

If you ever get back here to visit family, do let me know, perhaps we can meet for lunch/dinner/chat? (if you promise you wont be too critical of my hair(your screen-name) as I "do" my own hair for economic reasons!

Exactly. The thing that really disturbs me about people like Buchanan is they're so far to the right, they're on the left. If you listen to him, he sounds exactly like Howard Dean half the time. He, and his supporters, are the same people that gave us 8 years of Clinton because they want *everything* and, instead, end up with nothing.

I should have been off today but did not get finished yesterday so had to pop in for an hour or so this morning. Then when I got home dad decided with weather and the fact that Michael who takes us by car to the hospital appointment car is not well not to go to his appointment.

I did a few chores and went back to work for the social drink and nibbles

Hi snugs. But like me, you can look forward to 10 days off. The kittens have already hidden or misplaced the two balls that were in your gifts to them.

I have no idea where they are, but part of my time off will be used to hunt for toys the kittens have made vanish in my two months in this house. One is presently lying by my left arm, and other by my right arm. It's just about feeding time, and they don't let me forget it. :)

Even though this house is also a two-bedroom like the one I moved from, this is a much bigger place. So all the animals have more room and freedom. I even let Ricky loose while the cats are out and about in the whole house. This is a big deal to him. Ricky half-heartedly chase them, and they look at him like he's nuts. The kittens have never learned fear of dogs, or much of anything else for that matter.

We solved the wrapping problem with gift bags, and we reuse them. Even DH can do that. A little tissue paper stuffed in, and you're done.

But DH usually gets me presents and doesn't wrap them. It's the thought that counts.

I was sick for the most part of two years and DH brought me fresh flowers every week. The love is there.

I've been off work since Tuesday, for two weeks. The computers were down at work so I used some vacation time instead of hunting for projects to do.
Spent one day at the dentist, one day with genealogy research, and I'm cooking and baking for a party Sunday night.
My family is doing our gift exchange tomorrow.
And there are some special cookies that I'm trying to get done.

I feel like I'm running around and getting very little done.

I take bloodthinners, and ended up with a bad bruise in my gums after the dental work, because of the bloodthinners. I should cut them off two days before going to the dentist, but I forgot. I'm having all my old fillings replaced.

Thank you, Onyx. I think choosing a soldier's photo for POTD made a lot of sense. I always get teary when we see pictures of GWB and Laura at Walter Reed. I just can't imagine how they feel--knowing that in large part due to GWB's decisions, these brave soldiers have been wounded. Wow. What a weight to bear--even if, as we hear over and over that the soldiers say they would do it all over again and they believe in their mission. It must be incredibly emotionally draining.

I love the pics of GWB wrapping the presents with the children. Just adorable!

Thank you for your work. We are visiting our families for Christmas, so I haven't been here for a few days.

Yes, re the Christmas menu -- just finalized it last night. I concocted the fruit salad by combining some recipes and adding my own touches. We're eating a free turkey that a friend got from work. The menu has striking similarities to Thanksgiving's, due mainly to the free turkey. The pies are from the store.

APPETIZERS
Deviled Ham Dip (recipe listed below)
Crackers
Deviled Eggs (back by popular demand)
Veggie Tray and Dip
Black and Green Olives and Pickle Tray

ENTRÉE
Sparkling Apple Cider
Wine
Turkey
Stuffing
Gravy
Fruit Salad in Whipped Cream
Sautéed Asparagus Tips in Garlic-Butter Sauce
Potato Rolls
Smashed Sour Cream Potatoes (boiled, smashed but not creamy-whipped potatoes)

DESSERTS
British Christmas Cake
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
Marionberry Pie
Ice Cream and Whipped Cream

DEVILED HAM DIP
Yields 3-4 servings

1/4 pound deli ham, chopped
1/4 small white onion, cut in large pieces
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce, plus additional if desired
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 4-ounce package cream cheese at room temperature
(I'm omitting this because too much cheese = migraine for me) 1/2 cup extra-sharp yellow cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 T flat-leaf parsley

The Finish:
1/8 cup small pimento olives, sliced into thin rounds
1/2 box Ritz crackers or any other kind you like

In a food processor, combine all the ingredients except the olives and crackers, and pulse until it forms a paste-like dip.

Remove to a serving dish and top with olives. Serve crackers around for dipping.

FRUIT SALAD
Serves 4 – 6

1 C diced tart apples
3/4 C peeled, diced orange
1/2 C seedless grapes, sliced in half
1 – 2 bananas
1 or 2 kiwi, or small package fresh strawberries, sliced; reserve half
3 T lemon juice
1 T sugar
3/4 C whipped cream

1. Wash and cut fruit, coating apples and bananas with lemon juice to prevent browning
2. Fold all ingredients together except one-half of kiwi or strawberry slices
3. Arrange kiwi or strawberry slices on top of salad
4. Chill and serve

I rarely do a starter for Christmas meal as we have so many sweets and snacks plus cheese and crackers available to eat all the time that if we had a starter I fear the main meal would not be eaten.

I am going up to ASDA on Sunday about 2.00pm when they normally reduce bits and pieces prior to closing at about 4.00pm so I may pick a small starter up there like salmon mouse. I did buy some prawns (shrimps) today so I might do a small prawn cocktail.

The main course will be a roast not decided yet whether it will be the turkey or not, with it roast potatoes and roast parsnips, steamed Brussels and Yorkshire pudding and gravy made with the meat juices.

For dessert it will be Christmas Pudding with fresh cream or brandy/rum sauce.

The Christmas cake will either be cut later that day for supper or saved for Boxing Day or 12th night.
