The president has to file a plan for his own funeral well before it is needed. So they can request things, or not. I suppose all are entitled to full state honors but perhaps not all would want that. I think I read recently that Jimmah Cahtah was working on his funeral plan recently, and Clinton hasn't done his yet.
I think they have to get the plan filed to work out problems in advance, maybe Congress has to authorize some things.

Thanks for the headline. I've had to keep going back and forth from the computer to the other parts of the domicile and I have been behind-hand all night on the Dose. Just now saw your post about President Ford.

A couple weeks ago when I read of his health deteriorating, I thought, This is so sad that Ford is going to die before Bubba J. Liveshot, because he and his WINO are going to be muscling their way into all the living presidents photos (mercy, there's Jimmy Carter and Rosalyn in the background too!).

Poor Betty Ford, having to put up with all THAT in her sorrow.

At least the current president knows how to give honor where honor is due, and not go Wellstone on us.

How do you make your fonts fade from one color to the others?

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

Laura and I are greatly saddened by the passing of former President Gerald R. Ford.

President Ford was a great American who gave many years of dedicated service to our country. On August 9, 1974, after a long career in the House of Representatives and service as Vice President, he assumed the Presidency in an hour of national turmoil and division. With his quiet integrity, common sense, and kind instincts, President Ford helped heal our land and restore public confidence in the Presidency.

The American people will always admire Gerald Ford's devotion to duty, his personal character, and the honorable conduct of his administration. We mourn the loss of such a leader, and our 38th President will always have a special place in our Nation's memory. On behalf of all Americans, Laura and I offer our deepest sympathies to Betty Ford and all of President Ford's family. Our thoughts and prayers will be with them in the hours and days ahead.

Yes I do like them normally I eat broccoli raw though I have tasted it with sauce on it I prefer it without.

The same for sprouts although at Christmas I serve them with chestnuts, I cook the chestnuts before hand so they are about 50% done and then steam the sprouts with chestnuts for about 15 mins before serving.

On the whole I prefer my veg as it is without any additions and most of it such as sugar snaps mange tout etc raw.

Christmas would not be Christmas without sprouts though which is just as well seeing as I have as well as the "tree" loads in the fridge.

Thank you, Gretchen.

"Thank you" doesn't quite cover it, but that's all I can say ...

You're the best. And this family of Dosers, that I'm so proud-happy-thankful to be a part of, is just the greatest.

(((God bless you, my friend.)))

I met Wolfstar and several other FReepers in late summer after he died in June: 6-5-04 ---- when we all traveled to his library.

That was a very, very special day, onyx.
