If I want to do a background check.......

Total Vanity.

Does anyone know of a the best or most reliable source to do a background check on people? I read from what looks like consumer reports that these 3 were the best...but I can't confirm if it is true since I can't confirm that it is a actually a consumer reports website. Beware of Online Background Checks"

Any recommendations on what site would be the best to purchase from for the most in depth search?

Thanks for any help.

On a whim I entered my name into one of the three "top rated" online services. My birthdate was off by 22 years, and it listed a current address as one that I havent lived in for over 10 years..

Net Detective is just a data-bank of other online investigative services. I'd skip them and go directly to Intellius or Abika. For simple address checks, zabasearch is pretty good.

Zaba and Intellius were the ones who had my information wrong and out of date. If you need a check done on someone, I would recommend hiring a a reputable PI's service..(If you can find one..)

Find a local private investigator. They have a myriad of sources.

I'm mainly interested in criminal and marriage records......those are public records right? Aren't they found in one place on specific names?

Mine has me listed 4 times at my last 4 addresses, with only the oldest one showing a (correct) birthdate.

Probably the best advice.

Call up the NSA. They might be able to help.
Tell them you are a personal friend of Jack Bauer's and I'm sure they'll "open a socket" for you to access their database.

If I recall correctly, in Florida, you can check court records. A friend of mine searched her ex-husband's. Nasty surprise!

Wow, they had me on Zaba. I changed address and it only took about a year for them to catch up with me. Local investigators charge so much more money... I guess it depends on what exactly you want and how much information of your own you already have. I have found out quite a lot about someone simply by having their e-mail address.

APL beat me to it, but zabasearch is OK for a free site. The other sites mentioned here are, in fact, pay sites, but it might be worth your coin if what you're after is more complicated than a simple criminal conviction.

Should you be interested in checking up on a potential child-care provider for sex offenses This Site is useful. The map might scare the heck out of you, though...

No. You have heard of identity theft, have you not? The information needed to perform a 'background check' is the same information needed to create a false ID.

For criminal records you must address your request to the jurisdiction holding them and that jurisdiction will demand your qualifications for receiving the information.

For a marriage record you will have do address your request to the jurisdiction holding it and justify your privilege.

If it was easy everyone would do it. Tagline...

Dunno! With Identity Theft on the rise no one should depend on rogue databases and information. However, if you would send me your bank account, SS# and $29.95 plus shipping and handling I will send you a CD with the names of all the Nigerian Oil barons!

All you need to do to commit identity theft is use the persons name, address and phone number....you don't even need Social Security numbers anymore.
You always hear about people doing background checks on people they date or do business with. The pay sites. That's what I'm looking for ....the most reliable.....the best pay site.

Zaba USED to be pretty good. They were bought by some enterpreneur type and the last time I used them it was a waste of time and money..they just produced an endless stream of teasers and baiters for further services.

As to onlline "reviews", they are a joke. Camera dealers and web hosting places are known to stuff the ballot boxes, and a "Review" place registered with a TLD of ".to" is pretty unusual for a non -porn site...In other words, zero credibility. And notice that all three "reccommended places" list the same price but with different structures. Probably the same company.

The "Reviewer" is a throwaway website:

DNS servers

ns.phx3.nearlyfreespeech.net

ns.phx2.nearlyfreespeech.net

ns.phx1.nearlyfreespeech.net

For as little as $0.25, you can move your websites to NearlyFreeSpeech.NET, the original home of a href="/services/hosting.php#pricing" only pay for what you use

hosting. See the proof for yourself.

I don't know the cost or what the application process is, but there's www.lexisnexis.com.
