a focused minefield with friendly warnings focused in Spanish would get their attention. Then...we could focus on
deportation of crimialiens starting with felons and working
our way down.
What happens to illegals when they are convicted of felonies in the US? Do they go to US jails or get deported to Mexico and take another lap thru Arizona or Texas to repeat the process?
If they go to US jails we should be able to bill Mexico for their upkeep, or at least deduct it from foreign aid payments.
>The problem here is not that he is illegal.<
If Bush permitted the Border Patrol to do its job the number of illegals would not be in the dozens of millions.
Gee. What are the odds? /sarcasm
Just recently there was a tragic case of a drunken illegal alien killing a soldier back from Iraq and his girlfriend.
Unhappily, there is more truth in that than you probably intended.
Practice 'touch-and-goes' to train our C-130 pilots. Dump the illegals somewhere on a South American dirt airstrip with an MRE and canteen- not our problem.
5 beers? more like 18 I bet.
Grounds for impeachment (along with impeaching all those in Congress voting against funding the fence and patrols for same) in my mind.
Unfortunately, Mr. Bush would rather we American taxpayers foot the bill for these millions of bloodsuckers than risk offending his amigo Vicente Fox.
You need to understand that both the GOP, and conservatives are split right down the middle on immigration. Half of us fall into one or more of the following categories, all of which vote GOP, and most of which vote conservative. A few of which embody the definition of conservative.
1. Libertarians like me who believe in free market capitalism. We oppose a big government approach to immigration as we do to most programs where others favor big government.
2. Abolitionist Republicans who compare illegals to slaves under DredScott.
3. Compassionate conservatives like Bush, and my township committeeman St Rep Paul Froehlich.
4. Mercantilists, the arch enemies of capitalists... check out the free trade threads to see the real split.
4. Personal beneficiaries of illegals, often American family members who depend on illegals to help pay the mortgage, etc.
6. Political consultants like Karl Rove/Mehlman who see a vast group of potential voters who are conservative on 10 of 12 issues but who find the GOP unfriendly to them.
7. PTA moms (including Mr moms) who want above all to be nice and not be called racist.
These are a very big part of the GOP. And all but #7 are a big part of "the base". That is the reality. Politically Bush and the GOP are caught in the middle.
Politically they should have FRAMED the issue:
The Republicans are focused on immigrants who are terrorists, murderers, rapists, and welfare parasites.
The Democrats support allowing terrorists, murderers, rapits and welfare parasites entering the US.
Instead, the House NRCCC ran some of the worst TV ads possible, in both style and content. They did not say "illegal immigrant". They just said "immigrant" and "immigration". Whatever paid consultant designed those ads needs to be put in the Somali desert with MREs.
The once-conservative GOP has all but lost its base because of bad decisions on many issues, including illegal immigration, and they no longer represent the majority of the American people.
I vote Constitution Party and third party wherever I can. No more "lesser of two evils" BS for me anymore, because I see very little difference in the "two parties" now.
Yes, I'm talking about Columbus. You are right, the place is crawling with them.
Your mistake is in thinking that anti(illegal) immigration is "conservative". That is a definition of conservative that has only emerged in the past 4 years.
Historically, "conservatives" have been for free market capitalism.
Historically, "conservatives" have been for the free movement of people (other than murderers, rapists, etc).
Historically, "conservatives" have been for small government.
Historically, "conservatives" have opposed populatin control and Malthusian demagogery.
The current anti(illegal)immigration movement is against free market capitalism. It is for big government.
Prior to 4 years ago, Pat Buchanan was a lone voice and described as "not a true conservative" by 99.4% of conservatives precisely because of his position on immigration.
The current anti(illegal)immigrant movement is best described as demagged populism.
