Democrats in Congress, itching to expand health coverage, will likely start by tackling the most politically appealing group: uninsured children.
For Democrats, covering these youngsters has obvious appeal. It would allow lawmakers to champion solutions to problems of people who they say have been a low priority for Republicans. It also would be a step toward universal health coverage, an old and elusive goal of many in the party.
Many Democrats want both to ensure that youngsters already covered keep coverage and to broaden the program to pick up all uninsured children, regardless of income. "We should reach across party lines to agree on universal health care for children," Rahm Emanuel, the Illinois Democrat who led the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Bruce Reed, president of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council, wrote in their campaign manifesto, "The Plan."

The following are facts about persons defined as "poor" by the Census Bureau, taken from various government reports:
Forty-six percent of all poor households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.
Seventy-six percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, 30 years ago, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.
Only 6 percent of poor households are overcrowded. More than two-thirds have more than two rooms per person.
The average poor American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe. (These comparisons are to the average citizens in foreign countries, not to those classified as poor.)
Nearly three-quarters of poor households own a car; 30 percent own two or more cars.
Ninety-seven percent of poor households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions.
Seventy-eight percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception.
Seventy-three percent own microwave ovens, more than half have a stereo, and a third have an automatic dishwasher.
As a group, America's poor are far from being chronically undernourished. The average consumption of protein, vitamins, and minerals is virtually the same for poor and middle-class children and, in most cases, is well above recommended norms.
cable, cell phones, and cars with bling are important to everyone's wellbeing. Being responsible is overrated.
Governor Arnold (RINO) here in California wants health care for "all Californians", including illegal aliens. Gosh, here in illegal alien heaven, I wonder WHO will pay the bills?
Typical methods of politicians. Start small and then grow. Happened with tobacco, smog testing (in some states), and on and on. All of government no matter what party is guilty of this crap. Watch out gun owners. That one is growing.
So .. here we go again with "it's for the children" garbage. As usual, the dems keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result .. I believe that's the formula for insanity.
I'm sure the off-spring of Democratic law-makers won't avail themselves
of that nasty old private health-care once Hillary!Care is passed.

I bought comprehensive coverage against my clothes wearing out. To my surprise, the premiums I paid were finally more than the cost of replacing my clothes. But, hey, I had the peace of mind knowing any sudden exposure of my undies due to a worn out patch was covered. I think everyone should have to have clothing insurance to keep my premiums down.
In nyc they already have a program like this its called healthstat and its pushed aggresively in the prisons,hospitals and daycare centers. This from the same man who is always crying about the city being broke.
Bumberg/Hillary whats the difference?
Healthstat replaces you clothes if they wear out too fast?
My immediate thought is, why the HELL would anyone live in such a sh!thole? It's not like this is Communist Russia (not yet, anyway, but it will be if the libs get their way). Nearly everyone in the feature had an automobile. They could get a (subsidized by the taxpayer) education, get a decent job, and GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE.
Yes, I'm screaming. I didn't grow up that poor, but you can be sure I didn't grow up with anything to call my own, either. I did it. If I can do it, anyone can do it. I'm so sick of hearing about the "downtrodden", who are mostly poor due to their own bad decisions. This country is crying out for welders and truck drivers, both jobs attainable by persons of normal intelligence.
They profiled a woman who had I believe seven children. Why have children you can't support? Who forced her to do that? Condoms (God knows liberals worship condoms as a sacramental garment) are cheap compared to child rearing. And everyone knows about condoms thanks to public schools and billboards that scream them into my car windows when I drive down the highway.

Wow, I never knew cable TV cost $450 monthly.
Last time I checked, every hospital bill I get contains additional charges for indigents and other uninsured individuals who need the hospital.
