White House Postponing Loss of Iraq, Biden Says
Washington Post ^ | 5 January 2007 | Glen Kessler

Posted on 01/05/2007 7:53:16 AM PST by shrinkermd

Senator Biden (D-Del.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said yesterday that he believes top officials in the Bush administration have privately concluded they have lost Iraq and are simply trying to postpone disaster so the next president will "be the guy landing helicopters inside the Green Zone, taking people off the roof," in a chaotic withdrawal reminiscent of Vietnam.

"I have reached the tentative conclusion that a significant portion of this administration, maybe even including the vice president, believes Iraq is lost," Biden said. "They have no answer to deal with how badly they have screwed it up. I am not being facetious now. Therefore, the best thing to do is keep it from totally collapsing on your watch and hand it off to the next guy -- literally, not figuratively."

Biden gave the comments in an interview as he outlined an ambitious agenda for the committee, including holding four weeks of hearings focused on every aspect of U.S. policy in Iraq. The hearings will call top political, economic and intelligence experts; foreign diplomats; and former and current senior U.S. officials to examine the situation in Iraq and possible plans for dealing with it. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will probably testify next Thursday to defend the president's new plan, but at least eight other plans will be examined over several sessions of the committee.

Washington Post and Senator Biden have pronounced the war is lost. Still using Viet Nam analogy. They have decided to lose the WOT and especially Iraq.

Seemingly, they have the public supporting their position if the polls are anywheres near accurate.

The RATS and the MSM wanted us to lose and are intending we do lose in order to gain power. The only Viet Nam comparison really applicable is they are engineering a US defeat for personal power.

I've always said the democrats want Bush to lose but would do anything to avoid doing it themselves.

That makes me sick!!

However, now, unlike during the Viet Nam era, we have the internet and other media outlets for our news and we must use it to "organize and mobilize our troops" to get the truth out there!

Two years is a long time. If we conjure up the cojones to clean up Iraq, comments like these should come back to haunt the defeatists.

Sounds like a gaggle of freepers here to be frank. The defeatism by so called conservatives is making them sound identical to Pelosi and Biden.

Wishful thinking, Joe. Why don't you just shut your yap?

It always amazes me how democrats equate a loss for America as being a win for them. Amazed, but not suprised.

So many hair transplant holes dug in his head - when he attempts to think, his brain farts.

Mark Levin's opinion that Biden is "the dumbest man in the senate" is spot-on.

The people had had enough with the war seemingly going nowhere and the president saying that we were winning. The people spoke and we got a democratic congress.
The tragedy is that this congress is very likely to try to appease the forces that want to kill us and make this country a theocracy.
Bush, for all his faults, is more likely to ward off the invaders than the dems.

Why shouldn't he think he can elected? We have Nancy and Reid as leaders now. Maybe he knows just how stupid we really are.
