LAUREL, Md. -- Some criminals have a gun and a badge that belong to an officer who is assigned to protect the Capitol.
Police said two robbers stole the badge and handgun during a liquor store robbery at the Roundabout Fine Wine and Spirits in Laurel, Md., Friday night.
The armed criminals walked in, held up the cashier and then noticed a U.S. Capitol police captain who happened to be there.
Investigators said they took his badge and gun and then ran away.

What would Bloomberg say? We need to get the cop's guns off the street?

Ahem.
At first glance, this cop is a drunkard or a coward. Or both.

At first glance, this cop is a drunkard or a coward. Or both. Neither - he was a Captain. IOW, not a cop, but a politician with a badge (or used to have, heh, heh, heh).

Wait a minute, this captain (lower case for cause) was buying booze and then surrendered his shield and weapon?
Like I said, on first glace, this tub is a drunkard or a coward.

Your judgment is a little harsh based on the sketchy facts in this story. Liquor stores tend to have aisles piled high with boxes. The Captain may not have even realized there was a robbery going on until the perps already had guns pointed at the clerks and perhaps at him. He has to be concerned not only about his own safety, but the safety of others in the store too. I liked the "Dirty Harry" movies as much as the next man, but life cannot always imitate art.

Yes, I a bit "too harsh", blau993. This cop, no matter how you spin it, surrendered his shield and his gun.
Cops have to be held to a higher standard. The government grants the cops supremecy over the polulace, again and again. I sure wish some cop would step forward and accept the requirement.
To: Zuben Elgenubi
Sure, Zuben. One should never let knowledge, or the lack thereof, get in the way of a good rant.
