Breaking: Pork Soup Racist Again in France

Looks like we spoke too soon last Wednesday, because pork soup is racist in France after all.

PARIS — A top French judge ruled that an extreme-right group cannot serve pork soup to the needy, saying the charitable handouts aim to discriminate against Muslims and Jews who don’t eat pork because of their faith.

Judge Christian Vigouroux of the Council of State, the country’s highest administrative body, said late Friday that such giveaways by the far-right group Solidarity of the French threaten public order. His ruling approved a decision by Paris police to refuse permits to the group on the grounds that such handouts could spark angry reactions.

France is home to more than 5 million Muslims and some 600,000 Jews. Both Islam and Judaism prohibit eating pork, and Vigouroux said the group had shown “a clearly discriminatory goal” with its charity.

Solidarity of the French was just one of several far-fight groups that began distributing pork soup across France over the last four years. Critics contend the giveaway of pork soup is a far-right ploy to draw support for their efforts to defend against perceived threats to European culture.

Far-right groups defend the soup as nothing more than an age-old staple of the rural heartland from which all the French, at least in the national imagination, are said to spring. “Pork-fat soup is traditionally the soup of the poor because it provides complete nourishment,” said Bruno Le Griel, a lawyer for the group.

Le Griel argued that no needy Jew or Muslim was forced to consume the pork soup. But the judge said the group’s Web site indicated it was a policy to refuse dessert to anyone who did not eat some soup first.

If the media characterization of this “far-right” group is correct, I have no doubt that they are indeed targeting their actions against Jews as well as Muslims. The French far right is not just anti-Muslim, it’s virulently antisemitic as well.

But the media and the French are disingenuous to imply that this group is coming under scrutiny because of their attitudes toward Jews and Muslims; they give it away when they say the permits were refused out of fear of “angry reactions.” It isn’t Jews who will riot in the suburbs of Paris over something like this.

Could be worse. Could be trans-fats. Another thing: there appear to be races all over the planet.

But, religion is not a race except maybe in the UN or some high French Ministry.

I wonder how many French Jews are needy and living on handouts. Not too many, I'd wager.

Yup. I'm almost afraid to read FR satire. It all too often becomes the 'next thing' in real life!

I don't, however, think that we'll ever see BBQ spareribs declared racist food, and banned, here.

As usual, the French surrender again.

What's the fuss?If a person chooses not to eat pork then don't eat it.No one is being forced to eat it are they?Solution?Perhaps a charitable org would like to step forward and give out free food to individuals with specific dietary requirements? No brainer:)

Here is the Solidarity of the French website:

http://www.association-sdf.com/

I translated some passages on there, and nothing seemed too extremist to me. I can tell that they don't like the "Islamization" (their words) of France, but they don't say anything about Jews.

I think it's ridiculous to tell a charity that they can't hand out soup or other food to the needy just because Muslims and Jews might not eat it. That's like saying no one can hand out anything with meat in it because vegetarians won't eat it.

This is ridiculous. Charities are being told what they can and can't serve in France. Europe is a lost cause. The Muslims will overtake it within half-a-century. Let's hope this Socialist mentality of trying to be fair to everyone and giving people rights to not be offended and calling soup 'racist' never makes it to our shores.

Just like starving africans who over the last 30 years or so have turned down food because of religious or cultural beliefs; if you are willing to starve to death over those beliefs, who am I to stop you. Meanwhile, those who take advantage of the offered meal should continue to have that opportunity.

I don't know about Europe, but I have known many Jews here in the U.S. who will eat pork in a restaurant or someone else's home. They just don't bring it into their own kitchens.

But as someone else noted, you can probably count the number of Jews who visit soup kitches on one hand.

I am willing to bet $100 that not a single Jew requested soup. This is all about Islam. It pisses me off that they are lumping Jews in with these Pisslamic maggots as a rationale for denying a permit.

It's not just France that took the Stupid pill - local or, small time charities here are often prohibited from giving away food, for it hasn't been inspected, detected, rejected, taxes paid, met OSHA, EPA requirements or some other rot nonsense. It's easy to see that centralization is the death of any sane society.

With this seemingly small victory by the IslamoNazis, I know without a doubt that France is doomed.

Well, I can't blame the French for being afraid of the alienated Jewish youths rioting and burning cars.

My sole culinary experience involving a Muslim happened in 1976. A group of us graduate students decided to have a potluck. One classmate was a fellow from Pakistan named Sayed, whose only request was would we please let him know which covered dishes contained pork, so that he could abstain. That was it; no demands, no in-your-face, nothing. As I recall, just out of courtesy the rest of us brought beef or chicken dishes, while Sayed showed up with a magnificent vegetable pilaf.

It was a different time.
