Tehran, 9 Jan. (AKI) - Iranian reformist lawmakers have started collecting signatures in Parliament to demand the impeachment of the country's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. So far, 38 signatures have been collected out of the 72 required to formally summon Ahmadinejad and request his impeachment. Noureddin Pirmouzen, a deputy with the reformist minority, says it is nonetheless "positive to question" the head of the executive branch. "Many actions of the current government and of president Ahmadinejad have led the country to an extremely worrying political and economic situation," Pirmouzen told the Iranian news website Aftab.
Referring to a resolution of the UN Security Council unanimously approved on 23 December which imposes sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear programme, the MP said "it is the last straw which has made Iranians loose their patience." The international community fears Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons and has repeatedly asked the government to halt sensitive nuclear work - a demand ignored by Tehran which claims its programme is solely for civilian use.
"Parliament cannot sit still in front of the current situation and watch as the economy worsens because of the government's inability," he added.
Issa Saharkhiz, editor and political analyst, told Adnkronos International (AKI) that "Ahmadinejad's golden era is over."

Peachy!!
I sure hope all the signers have their wills in order..
So when do all these people who sign this start to disappear?
I just want six almonds a day.
(health)
Wonder if those that are signing it are hoping that they continue to breathe.
Maybe his Mahdi quest isn't going over so well.
At least not everyone in Iran is a suicidal nutcase..............
Maybe some in Iran are starting to get worried about action by certain nations if this Whackjob isn't shut down. Seems many there would like to rid themselves of him and the mullahs.
"I sure hope all the signers have their wills in order.."
I see a plane crash in thier future.....
"So when do all these people who sign this start to disappear?"
My initial thought, as well.
Do you think this could have been instigated in part by the reports of Israel's nuclear strike?
maybe that report of israel practicing a limited nuclear strike against them is the motivating factor.
Anyone who would sign this petition has to be suicidal.
Probably within 48 hours.
the current President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is so focused on the predicted coming of the Islamic mystic called the Mahdi (Arabic for "guided one") that it is conceivable that he could declare himself to be the Mahdi.snip
His first name, Mahmoud, means "praised" or "praiseworthy." His last name, Ahmadinejad, is actually a compound name. It would be more properly presented "Ahmadi-Nejad." The second part of his last name, Nejad, is a Persian suffix that means "descendant of." The first part, Ahmadi, means "highly praised" or "most highly praised." So, every time he signs his full name, he looks down at the piece of paper and reads, "The Praised Descendant of the Most Highly Praised." Sounds almost like the title "Son of The Most High," doesn't it? Perhaps it isn't so far-fetched after all to think that maybe, just maybe, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad really does think that he is destined to become the Islamic king of the world.snip
