Oh man, I use to live there and work for Assemblyman Bill Baker. 20 years ago my former husband brought us to Chicago and then dumped us here and went to state of Washington with gf (they live 1/2 year in Mexico).

Obviously I married the wrong guy (with the exception that he fathered two wonderful kids).

My sister, divorced, (formerly a Republican) lives in Lafayette and has two radically liberal college kids who walked door to door for Gore.

My kids and I have struggled, but we continue to be good Republicans. However, I can tell you stories of MANY former Republican women who changed when they got dumped on through divorce. As struggling working, single parents they became liberal and voted Democrat. If I still lived there, I would join you - and bring my kids!
