(Rep.Duncan Hunter) Rotate Iraqi Troops Through Baghdad .... (27 Iraqi battalions)
Human Events ^ | Jan 11, 2007 | Rep. Duncan Hunter

Posted on 01/11/2007 7:34:56 AM PST by IrishMike

American troops in Baghdad, alongside Iraqi forces, have been engaged in a fierce battle with insurgents over the past several days.

The United States, with the support of Iraqi leaders, has developed a plan to stabilize Baghdad and the al-Anbar Province. The President has told Congress that he intends to move an additional six brigades to Iraq for this operation.

My own recommendation to President Bush has been to move the 27 Iraqi battalions presently in quiet areas of the country into Baghdad. Further, I have recommended that U.S. troops move to “leverage” their positions, emphasizing advisory teams, intelligence, precision strikes and special operations; and that Iraqi forces take the lead in the proposed Baghdad sweeps.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Peter Pace, has told me that part of my recommendation is being implemented in that nine Iraqi battalions from peaceful areas are being moved to Baghdad for this operation. Against this backdrop, the Democrats have announced that they will resist any reinforcements being sent into the battle zone. I will strongly oppose any such Democratic effort to cut off troop reinforcements or re-supply efforts into the Iraq theater.

We are a nation at war. To fracture the U.S. government at this critical time will demoralize our troops and allies, and embolden our enemies. I support the commander in chief in this operation.

We need Hunter to start getting some attention from the elite GOP. He is the only hope for a return to sanity in the left moving GOP .

Duncan Hunter fans should be glad that Brownback has been scratched from the Real Conservative list.

I've seen a lot of people come back from setbacks but, MAN, Sam pulled a "Stupid!" on that one.

Right now it's Hunter and Gilmore on the straightline conservative sheet.

Hmmm....

(I still can't get responses from Hunter's campaign though. I am not sure what they are doing...

Hunter. No he announced that he wasn't announcing when he originally announced. That's when he announced that he would actually announce later so that he could get another press conference... at his announcement... later.

It's all his website... Which doesn't 'seem' to say he is running for president but does quote a lot of articles that say he is running.

Oh, ok.

I do remember him announcing an exploratory something or other, I guess they all do that to see if they can raise enough money I guess.

"I still can't get responses from Hunter's campaign though. I am not sure what they are doing..."

It may have been the tone of your correspondence. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from other threads I seem to remember that you strongly oppose him. That may be why.

Not to nitpick with Hunter's suggestion, but aren't there some Iraqi troops who refuse to move out of their home areas?

No that's not correct. I think he the handling of his short campaign has had a fairly cheesy and inept beginning.

I am not looking for someone to run campaigns, I am looking for an American President. I think D'Hunter is a great man and can be a great president.

I think he needs to surround himself with good people who know how to run a campaign. (You know. The types who answer emails that say things like "I would like to help set up some speaking engagements in Texas. Can someone contact me?")

He hasn't and no one does and I think it's too bad.

Ok. He definitely is not as organized as the RINOs purportedly in the lead. I am hoping he will pick up steam over the next 2 years.

Go here and tell them you are a fan. Tell them you are concerned that they aren't able to answer emails and they need to get the basics going...

A true conservative. He would make a great president, IMO.
