Family groups say Dems are cutting free speech

James Dobson, founder of the Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family organization, has been joined by other prominent pro-family leaders in calling on Christians to tell Democrat leaders in Congress they don't like proposed new limits on their freedom of speech.

"Clearly, the objective here is to hide what goes on from the public and punish and silence those of us who would talk about what our representatives are doing," Dobson told his audience of several million listeners in his special program about Senate Bill 1.

That proposal, sponsored by Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., is listed as a proposal "To provide greater transparency in the legislative process," however Dobson was joined by American Family Association Chairman Donald Wildmon, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins and American Values President Gary Bauer in urging listeners to flood Capitol Hill with phone calls demanding those speech limits be removed.

Bauer said the telephone number to call is: 202-224-3121.

The provisions of the plan would require the pro-family groups to provide documentation of their actions to the government any time they try to spark any "grass-roots" action.

Phone calls, personal visits, e-mails, magazines, broadcasts, phone banks, appearances, travel, fundraising and other items all would be subject to government tabulation, verification and audits, Dobson said during the program. "On and on it goes."

"This legislation is on a fast track," Dobson said, with a vote expected within a week. "We need about a million people to oppose it while we can still make a statement like this, because it may not be possible in the future."

Looks to me like tax free status is no longer free. Every type of drama such as this would be removed if everyone that spent a dollar paid 10 cents tax when they do so.

Finance Reform wasn't constitutional but Congress passed it, the President signed it and the Supreme Court backed them up on it.

I guess it's time to get the phones to ringing again, the faxes to coming in, the letters and e-mails sent. Like the people say -- if this passes this will be the last time we'll be informing you about what Congress is doing...

Just get on the phone, or write an e-mail or letter or send a fax -- or whatever. It may be the last time you get these kinds of notifications about what Congress is trying to pass, if this goes through.

Let's say this passes the Senate, goes to the House and passes there. (I know that's painful to think about, but hang with me a second.)

So now the bill is sitting on President Bush's desk awaiting his signature.

What's he gonna do?

Kind of hard to pay a dime on a dollar spent when that dollar is taken away before it is even spent. If everyone had to pay tax as they spent, they would see just how much of their money actually goes to the governments.

Not everyone spends more that's for sure. You going to tell me that a family of 4 taking in 18-25 grand a year is spending more than a dime of each dollar in tax? Please tell me you know better than that. Everyone should pay their share and then we could see issues like this bogus thing deal end.

With no special tax rules for this group or that group, the forces that be would have no control to exhert as censorship. One stand alone tax would provide for one stand alone rule that applies to everyone. Less ability to control speech is a good thing right?

It's getting closer to the time we may have to use our Second Amendment Rights to do as the Declaration of Independance indicates.

But But BUt Barak Obama is going to be the next president and with his proposal to see the budget open for public view he would never allow such a thing. I know this all has to be true, the media told me so!!!

Keep one thing in mind, our governmen cannot keep secrets secret much less the bills they are trying to pass and even if hey do manage to slip them thru, people will still talk about it even if threatened not to do so. Maybe we cannot do anything about it, but we can still talk about it.

If the Democrats do this they will insure their loss in 08. Fine by me. It can be fixed then couldn't it?

Yes, I am going to tell you that.

Unfortunately, outside of the direct sales tax they see at the register, the vast majority of the tax they are paying when they spend money is hidden and embedded in the price.

Then take into account the 15% they are paying in FICA (which they never see nor notice really because it is gone before they get their check) and they are well above the 10 cents.

And at the end of the day, the big money Democratic donors and lobbyists will still have full access to the Dem. Congressional movers and shakers.

Hate to think about that, but it may come...

However, I think the first place that people are going to start shooting is with the Muslims and some Middle East conflict that spills over here, in this land -- as part of a broad attack on Israel, with a lot of rear-guard action going on over in this country (by those Islamic terrorists) to try and disable this country and not allow it to intervene in the planned destruction of Israel.
