Iraqi insurgents last night threatened to send President Bushs 22,000 new troops home in body bags as details emerged of the new Baghdad crackdown at the core of his surge strategy.
The Shia-led Government of Nouri al-Maliki reacted positively, but there is widespread scepticism as to whether it will confront Shia militias within its own hardline parties. On the streets there are near-universal predictions from Sunnis and Shias alike that the plan will join previous failed initiatives.
One al-Maliki aide told The Times that the Baghdad offensive would first concentrate on outlying Sunni insurgent strongholds that choke the capital such as Abu Ghraib, Latifiya and Salman Pak rather than taking on al-Mahdi Army.
He argues that the way to deal with the Mahdi Army is to bring down the level of terrorist attacks so ordinary Shia dont feel the need for the Mahdi. Right now they think the Mahdi is bad, but without them they would be killed by al-Qaeda and the others.
After four to eight weeks once ordinary Shias see a reduction in insurgent killings the Government would be in a stronger position to persuade the militia to disband.

The bells of hell go ting-a-ling-a-ling
For you but not for me;
And the little devils how they sing-a-ling-a-ling
For you but not for me.
O Death, where is thy sting-a-ling-a-ling,
O Grave, thy victor-ee?
The bells of hell go ting-a-ling-a-ling,
For you but not for me.
Sounds like this will be the Murthas of all Battles.
"Insurgent Soup"
Try some now, Freeze some for later!
That would sure please the Pelosi crowd.
Looks like they started in Greece, another embassy bombing. Return for the Iranian raid maybe?
These guys are great talkers. However when it is time to show what they are made of they fall flat. Somalia is most resent case in point. The Islamic Courts talked a good talk but when the Ethiopian army and air force hit them, they fell apart like a house of cards.
Isn't it amazing that wherever someone stands tall to take these zealots up on their call to jihad, they end up running away, hiding like cockroaches when the lights come on and then attacking the civilian populations instead of those there prepared to fight them in their jihad?
How long can the MSM and the Democrats hide this ever growing pattern of events?
Right on target, sonic.
Something for CNN to follow closely.
They won't report how many insurgents we put in body bags but I guarantee it will be 100 to one or better, if theres any pieces left to pick up that is.
Oh yeah? see video at link;

Don't see any body bags but lots of dead terrorists.
LOL! This brought back a blast from the past. I remember pat buchanan predicting thousands of our troops would be coming back in body bags...and that was just for going into Afghanistan.
As long as someone with an R after his name is in the White House...
There may be some truth in this. It seems the Mahdi only started to gain real strength and numbers, and Sistani's power began to diminish, when the government was shown to be unable to protect the Shia, and the attacks began to intensify. Problem is, they now have to draw people away from the established Mahdi.
