Dershowitz Calls Jimmy Carter "Coward, Hypocrite, Bully"
Associated Press ^ | January 12, 2007

Harvard law professor and lawyer Alan Dershowitz has labeled former President Jimmy Carter a coward for refusing to debate him over Carter's controversial new book.

Carter will visit Brandeis University to discuss his book on Palestine but won't debate academic Dershowitz as originally proposed.

Will You Read Book?

"It's the height of cowardice," said Dershowitz. "He released this book saying he wanted to spark a debate and now he refuses to do just that."

In an opinion piece in the Boston Globe Dershowitz also called Carter a "hypocrite" for telling Brandies officials he would not debate Dershowitz.

He also wrote, "Jimmy Carter isn't brave for beating up on Israel. He's a bully."

A Carter spokeswoman and university officials say Carter will speak for about 15 minutes and then answer questions for 45 minutes during the visit, tentatively scheduled for January 23.

Some students and faculty had objected when the speaking invitation to Carter, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, suggested the debate with Dershowitz, a Harvard Law professor who has disparaged the book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid." They said Carter should be invited to campus without conditions.

Carter spokeswoman Deanna Congileo said Carter looks forward to the opportunity to having a dialogue with everyone at Brandeis. She said Carter has set no conditions and would answer as many questions as possible.

Congileo said the visit to the campus at the Waltham, Massachusetts campus of Brandeis will be Carter's first to a university to discuss the book.

Brandeis is a nonsectarian university founded by the American Jewish community. About half its students are Jewish.

It seems perhaps Carter has jumped the shark. Liberals don't even like him anymore.

Lest we forget, Anita Hill is among the "distinguished" faculty at Brandeis. The university is more concerned with PCness than intellectual standards.

"Coward, Hypocrite, Bully". Yes, that about sums up ex-Prez Carter.

Kudos to Mr. Dershowitz for telling it straight.

It's just now dawning on Alan Dershowitz that Jimmy Carter is a coward?

I presume this means Alan can show up and ask a question or two.

Practically speaking, I would hate to engage in a debate with Dershowitz at all - let alone when he actually has the facts on his side.

Carter would have his clock cleaned like it has never been cleaned before.

He would be begging for a nice, affable "There you go again!"

I'll point out that 20 years ago it would have been an unthinkable faux pas to trifle with the dignity of the Presidential office by challenging a President emeritus to a debate.

But that was before President Carter and President Clinton erased the dignity of the office by their appalling personal behavior.

Before this recent book, he was merely the worst president and ex-president in history. Now, he's become a disgraceful buffoon profiting from hateful ideas about Israel while calling all who disagree too ignorant for him to deign to debate. The pomposity of this self-righteous twit is on full display now for all to see, and he has assured that this personality trait will equal his failed legacy as historians and biographers have to deal with him.

Well, it looks like I agree with Alan Dershowitz on one thing. But that may be about it.

i THINK everyone in the audience should have a yellow star of david stitched to their sleeves or pasted on their foreheads.

Or maybe washable tattoo'd numbers across their foreheads, too.

And some good leaflets of Scriptures about blessing Jews to be blessed; etc.

And maybe a dentist could give him a peanut carved with brain convolutions . . .

And everyone could carry a bottle of Fabreeze for the stink.
