Howdy.

Romney's got chutzpah, I'll give him that. No credibility, but lots of chutzpah.

"Lampson going to be gone in 2008."

I'll certainly do my best to help kick Nick Lampson to the curb in 2008 where he belongs. My family lives in Texas CD-22 and 2008 can't come soon enough for us.

I've made it my mission over the next two years to contact Lampson's office when he ignores the will of the majority Republican residents of his district with offensive votes in the U.S. House.

I made my first call to his office this week to let his staff know how ashamed we are of him back in the district for voting Aye on HR 3 (stem cell bill).

We call him Nick "The Clapper" Lampson in emails to his office, i.e.,

LampsON (2006) - LampsOFF (2008)

I doubt that his staff finds that amusing. :-)

He also did not seem bothered a bit about Robe activism on the issue.

That's because he will always bow to the courts' superior wisdom.

Just the kind of "leader" we need, eh?

One advantage Mitt has is that he, on a superficial level, epitomizes the Republican stereotype. A white businessman who loves his family and wears his religion on his sleeve.

That maybe why some conservative activists and politicans are warming to him.

My own viewpoint is Condoleezza Rice should take Fox News Channel on an interview to a Big 5 Sporting Goods store, buy an AR-15 live for the cameras, attend a NASCAR race the next day, then publicly call Rosie O'Donnell a fat dyke.

Then we'd have a real election on our hands.

But that's just me.

No, it was because it was inconvenient for Romney in 1994 to suggest that maybe SCOTUS invented a doctrine about a Constitutional mandate to jettison fetuses that was poorly reasoned, an invented concept from sources that were not textual (and more animated from Blackmun's jihad to unleash MD's (he was formerly the Mayo Clinic's lawyer) from legal scrutiny), and in fact usurped a zero sum game issue of conscience that was uniquely appropriate for the public square to hash out at the ballot box. Romney has a law degree from Harvard, cum laude no less, so I am quite confident he was thoroughly familiar with the legal debate on all of this. Roe had come down by the time he was in law school.

That GOP tent that you have fashioned seems something other than commodious. :)

I think he is really, really trying to look like he supports our rights that are expressed in our constitution.

...it was inconvenient for Romney in 1994 to suggest that maybe SCOTUS invented a doctrine ...

Ah. The REAL inconvenient truth.

Best to just tell people what sounds good. Yep, that about sums up Mitt.

He's really trying hard for Reagen's Mantle isn't he?

;-)

Okay. Not a big Mitt fan, but if he really means it and this is not some facade for show, then he get a point from me.

Romney will be asked to explain what it was that changed his mind on these issues. What new insights caused his point of view to change?

To my mind, no politician or candidate who has shown himself anti-gun in the past should be trusted unless or until he acknowledges and repudiates his former position.

If Mitt Romney were to come out and say that he had supported the AWB because he hadn't at the time realized it was predicated on a pack of lies, I wouldn't hold his past support of the AWB against him. Not only because I tend to forgive people I deem to be contrite, but also because his past would increase his power to attack HCI et al. and because his repudiation of his past statements would make it hard for him to re-support them.

Has Mitt Romney shown any sign of acknowledging and repudiating his former stands?
