Generals In Bronze; Civil War Books on BookTV (weekend C-Span2; Jan 13/14)

This is a "headsup" for reviews of interviews on selected Civil-era
War books on BookTV this weekend.
(links to summaries of presentations will be posted in post 2).

The "Generals In Bronze" segment is a rebroadcast.
I saw an earlier airing. It is about a sculptor that got many
Union Army generals to "dish" wartime details they'd never disclose
to the public.
If a more sensational editor had produced the book, it could
easily be subtitled "Union General Confidential".

I haven't seen the other two presentations, so I can't speak
about the books or authors.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; Government; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: army; art; booktv; civilwar; lincoln; milhist; military; sculpture; unionarmy
links to specific BookTV will be posted below

Some weekends of BookTV aren't very loaded with reviews of good/new books.

But this weekend is different (IMHO).

I've also posted links for books on WWII and The Cold War that will
air this weekend on BookTV at:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1767034/posts

I suspect the "Ship of Ghosts..." book will be good, as it's by the
author of "Last Stand of The Tin-Can Sailors" on Taffy 3 in The Battle of Samar.

for added reference...
Here's a link to Wikipedia for James E. Kelly, the sculptor whose notes
provide the source material for "Generals In Bronze".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_E._Kelly_(artist)

The story of how Kelly became "a forgotten man" (my words) as presented in
the BookTV segment is interesting and sad.

My wife and I just caught this interview. It was excellent, and we'll be looking for this book to read soon.
