Muslim-only kitchen kit for jails (UK)

JAILS are spending thousands on colour-coded kitchen tools for Muslims, it was revealed last night.

They are getting special red handled equipment to prepare Halal meals.

The move comes after an MPs’ committee recommended more should be done to meet the needs of Muslim prisoners.

So far 900 kits — costing £500 to £800 — have gone to jails across the UK.

The Koran prohibits eating pig meat, which is considered unclean. So the serving spoons, ice cream scoops and ladles are kept in special locked chests to prevent contamination by those used for other inmates.

A Muslim in Wakefield jail, Yorks, said: “We’ve all eaten in restaurants where no one cares how food is prepared. None except the strictest Muslims bother to check whether different equipment is used — it’s a waste of money.”

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “A comprehensive policy is in place for all aspects of Halal products including storage, cooking and service.”

I find something concerning about this statement reflecting "needs" for prisoners.

Pretty soon discipline will be abolished and those who practice discipline will be the criminals.

Why is this being done for muslims but it was never done for Jews?

Just a couple of guesses:
1. The Jewish prisoners were just too polite to ask?
2. The co-congregants (outside the prison walls) of the Jewish prisoners
haven't been documented to saw the heads off innocents when they
didn't get every little thing they want?

Those guesses may sound facetious. But I suspect they reflect the
reality of the situation.

But at least in the Los Angeles County jail, I do know that Jewish
prisoners have their own services. Maybe four-five years ago,
I read an interesting article about a rabbi that performs the
services and counsels Jewish prisoners.
But I don't know if there was any mention of kosher food being
provided to Jewish prisoners.

If we look at the alternate arguement. Separate utinsils and food preparation equipment will guarantee than no prisoner has to eat off of something that a muslim has eaten off of or had in his mouth.

We just got a puppy so I got a book called 'My Smart Puppy' It has a lot of good info on how showing the puppy you're in charge. The people in charge of the law enforcement in England should get a copy.

It comes with a DVD if they don't want to actually read it.

Jews never blew up the jail, or the market, if they weren't catered to.

It is here in federal jails. I just called a a prison guard I know and he said the Jewish can get kosher meals ....The Muslims don't have to eat pork etc. We don't make people go against their religious practices. He was really busy so I didn't get to ask if they get special knives or cooking utensils. But I wouldn't doubt it. They get their prayer times and all that though.
