Rice: Single women can understand war

By ANNE GEARAN, AP Diplomatic Writer 7 minutes ago

Condoleezza Rice let out a heavy sigh when asked Saturday whether as a single woman with no children she had difficulty appreciating the ramifications of war. It's a topic that has inflamed the Internet and talk radio in the U.S. since a Democratic senator challenged the secretary of state's personal stake in the Iraq war.

"No," Rice answered when asked if her status hinders her understanding of the sacrifices involved. "I also think that being a single woman does not in any way make me incapable of understanding not just those sacrifices but also that nothing of value is ever won without sacrifice."

Sen. Barbara Boxer (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., told Rice during a testy Senate hearing on Thursday that without an immediate family Rice will pay no personal price for the Bush administration policy in Iraq.

Rice has said she was at first perplexed by the exchange, and later told Fox News, "Gee, I thought single women had come further than that."

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh accused Boxer of hitting "below the ovaries."

Standing with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Rice jokingly noted that as a woman with children, Livni is qualified to "make the decisions."

Livni leapt to Rice's defense, saying Rice's strong emotions about the Iraq war toll are clear during their private conversations.

Rice, 52, has never married. She is an only child and her parents are dead.

"Just imagine if Condi had made a similar statement about Boxer?!?!?!"

Yeah, Boxer would be screaming for Rice's removal as Secretary of State.

Imagine that, Boxer and her party are the ones who have been tearing the family apart for years.

Ping to those who've expressed interest in Condi as President. There have been several threads on Boxer vs Condi. Maybe Boxer and the Democrats are trying a pre-emptive strike just in case Condi should change her mind about running for President.

"The Democrats were just venting their feelings this week. These weren't hearings, they were show trials. Wait until they realize that they didn't get ahead with their program and they looked stupid to the vast majority of the people in the country. Worse - wait until it's President Condaleeza Rice and Boxer wants a favor."

Oh but that would be a great day -- especially if it happened in public.

Sounds like "itch" or "witch" or "Mitch"?

I think harlot is a better term for Boxer myself but I like old fashioned words.

So Boxer believes only immediate military families should make policy and plans for the military. I wonder if she would like the answer.

It's back to the 60s for Boxer where heartless Generals and Admirals of the "war machine" thought nothing of offeing up cannon folder so that the "Military Indistrial Complex" would profit.

Liberals are cowards. They won't come right out and challenge you that you're the type to squander lives. They need to hide behind a shield that they believe will prevent any response from the target. So they hide behind a mother's "feelings".

It's also why Liberals stab people in the back. They don't have the guts for a fair fight.

Condi's father nightly went to war in their neighborhood. He was armed with a gun. Did that make an impression on Condi? You betcha!

Given her history and recent experience in foreign relations, I'm coming to believe that Condi might make a good hardball playing President.

Unfortunately, the dem single women will ignore this faux pas by Boxer for two simple reasons....Boxer is pro-abortion and they hate Bush. Look how they dealt with Clinton and sexual harassment!

Many of Boxer's constituents are childless men and women. They're gays and lesbians.

That was such a disgusting thing to say that I really couldn't even comment on it. I was really amazed that anybody would say something like that. Especially a "feminist" like Babs (I used to live in her district) whose whole goal in life was to prevent women from marrying and having children.

Where are the Republican Senators with the testicles to nail Babs on her horrendous comment about Condi Rice?

There is so much ammunition in her comment, that this could be kept in the news for weeks. Even just reading Freeper's comments on Condi threads would write the script.

The Republican leaders still don't understand who they are dealing with. If they expect to win in '08, they have to frame every idiocy of the Dims and nail them with it. Continually.

But we're all so, you know, collegial, in the Senate, dontchaknow.

Guess the Pubs WANT to be in the minority for another forty years like last time.

She had a little more "war" than most of us, when she was a child.

You bet she did, and that rich snob Boxer isn't fit to carry her briefase to work.

Can you imagine if Tom Delay would've said this?

Well, if Condi wants to run for President she's going to have to put up with this kind of stuff every day.

But the good thing is how WELL she handled Boxer:

".....does not in any way make me incapable of understanding not just those sacrifices but also that nothing of value is ever won without sacrifice."

Now that, IMHO is how the President of the United States should speak; not scripted (maybe she had anticipated this attack some time ago, still...) but turning the question around and scoring a point thusly.

I would be more than happy to give some of the answers to BB, but she would not want to hear what I have to say. In fact, Senators are not AT ALL interested in what our families have to say. I support the President's plan, and am still waiting as he is, to hear an alternative from the BB's of the world.
