It's hard to run for President AND show up for your regular tax-payer funded job. Just ask John Kerry.

Bayh was ok in the first term. Then he lost all crediblity when he cast NO votes against Rice, Patriot Act and everything else on NSA & judges.... list goes on. Kossacks won't let him for VP ticket if you read their comments.

The comment that struck me and one that rarely if ever is reported.

"The average citizens in Iraq want jobs, electricity, and streets where their children can play without fear; and there is certainly more of this than a glance over the newspapers would portray.

Russert will be in danger of whiplash as he rapidly goes from hunch-over glare to Kyle and Lieberman, to upright beaming to Hagel and Dodd.

LOL - have taken a liking to coffee since I got a new coffee maker for my birthday in November - so I can drink proper coffee not instant muck - sorry to those who like Nescafe.

A great bargain on Ebay less than 20.00 dollars.

And a freeper kindly sent me some hazelnut coffee my favourite which I got hooked on when I visited the States in 1997

Does Russert EVER read anything besides the New York Times and the Washington Post? I'd keel over if he ever quoted from any other sources.

Right snugs, even Newsweek International reported that Iraq economy is booming (than under Saddam), only that they don't want to report ANY of that on TV.

For one thing, saying we have to win politically and these actions cannot be won militarily is bunk.  Wars have been won militarily in the past (WWI and WWII). The lack of resolve to defeat the enemy and settle for a draw, as in Korea, has not worked well and abandoning a country, as we did with Vietnam, are both proof we lose when we try to win wars politically.

Surge, by itself, would not work without other factors being involved. My understanding is President Bush & Co have other factors in our favor, such as increased Iraqi military and commitments by Iraq to follow up and maintain the peace.

Not everyone wants to admit it but we have already won the war in Iraq. Remember the banner "Mission Accomplished?" I believe that was right on the money because we did accomplish the mission. However, we got sidetracked over that and the "no WMD's" bull. We got defensive about winning and the WMD's, and that hurt our resolve. Anyway, the reconstruction, or winning the peace, in Iraq is what is problematic today. Either Iraq steps up in resolve to finish the job or they don't.

How would they cope in the UK system where our Cabinet and Junior Ministers even the Prime Minister are also Members of Parliament and have constituencies to look after as well as their government department LOL.

Maybe it would get them more focused and make them more loyal to their party.

I had to laugh how the Boston Globe constantly attacked Mitt Romney because they argued he was more focused on running for President than being their governor. They didn't seem to mind Kerry skipping out on his senatorial duties while actually running for the oval office.
