I'd guess it gets pretty expensive to be a socialist utopia, overflowing with illegal aliens.

Socialism "ALWAYS" brings poverty, not sometimes, ALWAYS.

And to compound the problem they keep letting aliens in and they come in with nothing and add to the levels of the poor.

With all those wacky far left redistribute the wealth policies in CA, it's hard to imagine how the distribution of wealth could be getting worse... unless those policies just don't work.

California poverty increasing

The government's solution seems to be to import yet more illegal aliens to further displace Americans in the workplace.

California needs to import more illegal immigrants to whom poverty is luxury.

This is not a pretty picture. As California's population continues to grow due to immigration, the challenge presented by poverty will also increase and the issues that arise out of that trend, such as high rates of medically uninsured and low rates of academic achievement in schools, will also expand. Politicians will have plenty of work to do.

Yes, because it is up to the polticians to make sure that illiterate poor people are comfortable and receive their fair share of free health care, education, food, clothes, housing, money, sneakers, etc. It is what being in America is all about. It's in the Declaration (or whatever). The politicians are very nice people for doing all of this, and they should be thanked every day. They should also be reelected over and over.

California doesn't get it - if you want affordable housing and high-paying jobs, get rid of the welfare programs, kick the illegals out, cut taxes (CA should switch to a single-rate sales tax) and cut the size of state government.

What happened to the old California, where peopled dreamed and innovated.

California poverty increasing

Impossible!
Everyone knows that illegal immigrants are a real plus to our country.
Dubya has told me so many times!
And plenty of the members of the Republican/Conservative
braintrusts have assured us that the way to greater riches is to
flood the country with uneducated, low-income, taxpayer-subsidized illegals.
And we'll be even happier when we make them (and anyone that crosses
one of our borders) into an automatic US Citizen.

This article must just be propaganda to discourage lazy US citizens
from moving to the progressive paradise of the Illegal Nation called
California (aka "Mexifornia").

California is rapidly moving towards the standard 3rd world social model with a huge under class, a small upper crust and no middle class to speak of.
