You just don't understand. I live on a battleground. The last Mississippi Confederate widow lived three miles from here. Several of my client's fathers served in the Confederate Army. The Northern Army took anything that wasn't nailed down here (Grant's wife took 20 wagon loads of furniture from this town alone) and burned the rest. The people from my county voted against secession and were not slavers but when the Yankees invaded did what they felt correct. Ironic, but the folks from the 1860's were better in touch with what was going on in government than many living today in the US.

How does that work? There aren't many people around who were born before 1920, and at that time Confederate veterans would have been in their 70s at the youngest, most in their 80s, and not very many were siring kids.

Maybe it was different in your part of the world, but in the part of the South where my people were, the reb government was terrible. Much more oppressive than anything that ever came from Washington. When the Union army advanced in this part of Dixie they were hailed as liberators.

Now couldn't we just have had a nice discussion slamming Dodd for sticking his nose where it don't belong without injecting southron myth into the mix and making into another Southern rebellion thread?
