Not exclusively. That is, he attended public schools until 9th grade, when he chose a Jesuit high school. We spent our fair share of time with him (and the other kids) making sure he gained an appreciation for reading and educational achievement, as well as sports.

We were fortunate, as he had a very good public school option.

jdm,
Just to clarify, from the article ...

The course required three papers, each worth 25 percent of the final grade.

... implying the final paper was also worth 25 percent. So the course was based on 4 papers - 4 grades.

Qualitatively, I would interpret the reported admissions numbers as follows:

A decrease in early admissions applications,
coupled with a high number of regular admissions applications,
points to a lower overall quality applicant pool.
What will be interesting to see is the resultant admissions yield (% of accepted applicants matriculating), and distribution;
Nevertheless, I predict a marked and correspondingly lower quality incoming student body, by whatever measure Duke may choose to report.

It will be amusing to read the spin that the admissions department puts on the statistics, when it finally -- and sheepishly -- releases them.

Well, it will take a least four years to find out but you can figure the case will still be dragging thru civil court then and still on the radar.

Liberals don't believe in responsibilities. The whole point of being a liberal is to have no responsibility.

Oh thanks...that's all we need!

But seriously: True, we won't know for years the ultimate quality of the class of 2011. In fact, that will take a lifetime to fully determine; however, Duke WILL publish statistics -- and presumably, a synopsis -- once the class matriculates.
